No big deal, just key Trump surrogates Vivek and Musk calling for elimination of the social safety net:

(And of course leaving out that undocumented immigrants are pesonally ineligible for most welfare programs)

Is FEMA one of those "entitlement" programs?

Article with the 60 Minutes receipts that Trump's team had in fact agreed to a 60 Minutes interview before backing out and tossing out multiple different claims about it all.

Is this the strategy? Use the hatred of immigrants to push entitlement reform? Republicans are that dumb....

It’s super annoying to see the same ads over and over but it’s not hard to see why Trump campaign would play that ad on repeat. What a weird stance for Kamala.
Not that it will matter to you, but for anyone else to may be curious -

Once the state has a prisoner in its custody, it is responsible for providing for that prisoners needs, including medical care.

Gender reassignment can be recommended as a treatment for cases of severe gender dysphoria, which has been demonstrated in the relevant medical literature to have high success rates in alleviating the major symptoms of gender dysphoria, including depression and suicidal ideation.

If you want to, you can make an argument for not providing prisoners with medical care. But I don't know what the objection to providing this medical care would be, and how it would be different than other prescribed treatments, other than naked transphobia.

Or are you going to pretend to be worried about the sanctity of women's prison intermural sports?

How many cases of transgender care even exist in prisons? I can't imagine it's a huge number and yet here we are with idiot MAGA's falling for it and making a huge issue out of nothing yet again. It reminds me of when my dad told me he was worried about the transgender problem and I was like you've never even seen a transgender person in your life. How can this be an important issue to you all of a sudden other than someone told you to be afraid of it? It's pathetic that people fall into these kind of traps.

This is good info, thanks. I guess it seems obvious but it never really occurred to me that the state is fully responsible for providing all medical care- not just basic- for prisoners in its custody.

In NC many/most inmates are indigent First things Prison's does is get them on Medicaid if possible..............so the Feds pay.

"Is she a socialist, or even a progressive? Not even close. She calls herself a capitalist, she’s courting Wall Street, and she would increase the $5,000 tax deduction for business startups to $50,000. She has welcomed support from Republicans like Liz Cheney and Dick Cheney, the former defense secretary and vice president, and has said she’d put a Republican in her cabinet. Harris has also pledged to make sure that “America always has the strongest, most lethal fighting force in the world”

Do most Americans disagree with Harris on most things? Actually, polls suggest the opposite is true. Majorities agree with her on reproductive rights, gun restrictions, and support for Ukraine. On paid family leave and affordable child care, reducing health care costs, and banning price gouging on food and groceries. On raising taxes on wealthy people and corporations to pay for much of her agenda instead of adding trillions to the national debt (as economists say Trump would do with his tariff proposal). On her promise to sign the bipartisan border security bill that Trump tanked.

Is she weak and in over her head? Again, not even close. This is a woman who prosecuted transnational criminal gangs and, according to Slate’s Fred Kaplan, came up with the idea of sharing U.S. intelligence to convince Ukrainian leaders that Russia was about to invade—then traveled to Kyiv to tell President Volodmyr Zelensky."

As someone who dealt with private insurance and Medicare throughout my career,Medicare for all would be even better.
Agreed! I think lowering the age to 55 could be a first step in moving to Medicare for All. Get more people into the system to demonstrate to skeptics that it does work and provides a better quality of care.

Then we can lower to 45, then extend to everyone. Kind of the same theory as a public option, which I would also be in favor of.

Kind of weird that the Democrats have gotten to this static point of “expanding the ACA.” I don’t think most Americans know what that really means. Wish they would be more specific. This is a good first step.

55 is a fine idea

I believe that Australia basically has this system - they call their universal healthcare system Medicare, but instead of starting at 65 I think it covers all adults after the age of 18 or something similar (until then you're covered on your parents plan). Seems to work well for them, and you can still supplement Medicare with additional private insurance, just as senior citizens can do here.

As of an hour ago, I have voted in VA. Early voting is so much easier/quicker…I’m not sure why anyone would wait until Election Day when the early option is available.
I think it's fun to vote on election day when all of the attention is on the election and you feel like you're part of a bigger event.

But it's also a pain to make a random Tuesday work and so I vote early nearly every time.
