2024 races other than POTUS…

Obviously Harris/Trump dominates the discussion, but how are we feeling about other races?

Senate map isn’t favorable for Dems this cycle, but any renewed hope the last 10 days or so?

How about the House?

NC Governor race? Not a Governor race until next year here in VA.

I feel pretty confident that the major statewide Dem candidates in NC (Stein for governor, and Jackson for AG) will run ahead of whoever the Dem nominee is, as has happened in recent years. So if the presidential race is close in NC, that should bode well for the statewide candidates. If Trump wins by 3-4 points, though, it will be tough for the statewide Dems to peel off enough split-ticket voters to get the win.

Here in NC the big statewide races Democrats need to win are Josh Stein for governor, Jeff Jackson for atty general, Mo Greene for superintendent of education, and Allison Riggs for state supreme court - outside that my big hope is the Democrats can win enough seats in the heavily gerrymandered legislature to prevent the Republicans from having a supermajority

Limited polling in NC so far but Governor's race is too close to call based on available data.
The fact that our Governor's race is too close to call is absolutely ridiculous. One party is running a Taliban-esque Holocaust denier who has a very questionable financial history. Of course, the Robinson supporters I know simply state "nah that stuff is all fake, librul media fake news". The truth doesn't matter anymore.

Even leaving aside the typical right-wing nutjob stuff there really isn't any argument for why Robinson should be the pick over Stein. But it will probably still be 51-49 in one direction or another, which is sad.

Robinson is the real life version of Clayton Bigsby. The only reason people would vote for him is the same reason they would vote for Trump. All boils down to racism, bigotry, and Christian nationalism. He is scum and should never even be close to becoming governor. NC is a sad place if it is even close.

Took a look at the Senate races, and could control of the Senate really come down to Montana?

Assuming Dems hold the AZ & OH seats, and Manchin’s WV seat flips red, I could see it. Just don’t see a good flip opportunity for Dems…2024 is not a good map for it. Right now the Pub in Montana is polling higher than the Dem incumbent.

Senate is scary
Absolutely abysmal map for the Dems this year. They can get 50/50 with a Dem VP at best barring any major surprises.

Long past time we throw that antiquated institution into the dustbin of history where it belongs. Expand the House and give them the Senate’s powers.

Stein and Jackson have my votes on what will be a split-ticket vote for me. Who is running against Mo Greene for superintendent of education?

Michele Morrow, a conservative activist who last week upset the incumbent Superintendent of Public Instruction in North Carolina’s Republican primary, expressed support in 2020 for the televised execution of former President Barack Obama and suggested killing then-President-elect Joe Biden.

In other comments on social media between 2019 and 2021 reviewed by CNN’s KFile, Morrow made disturbing suggestions about executing prominent Democrats for treason, including Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar, North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper, former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, Hillary Clinton, Sen. Chuck Schumer and other prominent people such as Anthony Fauci and Bill Gates.

“I prefer a Pay Per View of him in front of the firing squad,” she wrote in a tweet from May 2020, responding to a user sharing a conspiracy theory who suggested sending Obama to prison at Guantanamo Bay. “I do not want to waste another dime on supporting his life. We could make some money back from televising his death.”

the problem is any year is not a good year for Dems in the Senate. Land carries more power than people, and it will likely only get worse.

A conspiracy-believing nutcase who defeated the hard-right GOP incumbent in the GOP primary who was already serving as Superintendent in a major upset. She is on record as wanting to see Obama publicly executed on "Pay Per View" by a firing squad, also called for the execution of Joe Biden, and has urged NC parents not to send their kids to public schools, which she calls "socialism centers" (then why is she running for Public Ed superintendent)? She also has never taught or worked in public schools, but homeschooled her kids using a "Christian" curriculum. And that's just for starters. Her name is Michelle Morrow, you can google her statements and beliefs. She's a genuine wacko, imo.

Here she is calling a student mentally retarded when she was running for Wake County school board.
