I mean, I used to think he was kind of a douche in general, but he’s grown on me. Before this season, I thought the Hornets should trade him because I thought he was selfish, unserious, soft, and injury prone. He seems to mature this season and dialed back a lot of the things he used to do on the court that used to annoy me, although he seemed to go back to some of that a little bit last night. But being a dirty player has never been his MO. You can find dirty plays committed by virtually every NBA player. It doesn’t mean they’re all dirty players. Most of the time no one gets hurt when those dirty plays are committed. But you might as not like almost any NBA player.
Last night, in a split second, Melo cupped Bam’s foot as it kicked up and as Melo was pulling his arm back. If Bam fell on his butt and got back up and kept playing, no one would have thought much of it. It’s fine to call it dirty, but certainly doesn’t define who Melo is.
