I doubt it. Texas GOP would vote for Satan if he registered in the right party.
If Cornyn wins the GOP primary then I agree that neither Democratic candidate will likely have much of a chance (I do think that Talarico has a better chance of winning than Crockett). But if Paxton wins the GOP nomination I'm not sure I agree with that. Beto came close to beating Cruz in 2018 (he lost by less than three points) and this year looks to be an even better year for Democrats (GOP cheating aside of course). I mean, I guess we could just give up and stop fighting, but watching Cornyn and Paxton cut each other up is a helluva lot better than the alternative.

I think Talarico would have a better chance against Paxton than Crockett because Talarico is far less bombastic than Jasmine and gives Republicans who won’t support Paxton a potential safe harbor to vote for (or just not vote and live with a Dem Senator for 6 years). The progressive counter programming in Texas has been tried and seems to have a ceiling short of actually winning. Which doesn’t mean a more “moderate” or restrained candidate has a significantly better chance of winning in Texas, either, I concede.

The whole thing is a very low probability in the best circumstances anyway. Realistically, my primary concern is to not let an unnecessarily ugly/divisive primary in a long shot race tar other Dem Senate candidates. Dems have very little chance of retaking the Senate regardless, but don’t let a high profile long shot race in blood red Texas torpedo even that slim chance.

I want too see Paxton win the primary
He is a perfect republican for today
Just might make enough people want to puke and lose

another House GQPer announces he is not seeking re-election. He represents one of the most ruby red districts in Georgia so I'm guessing he was not worried about being swept in a blue wave.

What too many conservatives do not realize is that over the long haul gerrymandering hurts them. Keep having decent establishment candidates getting primaried. And now, here we are. There was a time, not that long go in the large scheme of things, there was some actual debate over issues. Always been some culture wars to some degree, but some basics were agreed upon. I am conservative across the board on pretty much every issue. But this current iteration of the Republican party is awful. Haven't voted for the republican candidate in a Presidential Election since 2012. Would love to be able to in 2028.

I've read that many people now serving in DC - especially Republicans - are actually pretty miserable. They're constantly under Trump's thumb and that of his minions, they're terrified of offending their own base and perhaps getting death threats or being primaried, they feel like they have little of freedom of movement (because they don't have a spine), and they get almost nothing done in Congress anymore - almost no laws are passed and they do little of the traditional work assigned to the legislative branch. So I'm not really surprised that so many of them are leaving.

That was my thought as well. He received 67% of the vote in 2024 so I'm thinking he was not worried about his base or receiving death threats so much as tiring of the Trump created chaos that has prevented the legislative branch from legislating and focusing on actually improving the lives of working and middle class American families.

I don’t buy this on the republican side at least. Even in statewide primaries they almost always seem to pick the crazy candidate (even for races that promise to have a competitive general election). No reason to think that creating more competitive house races would solve that problem.
