Sherrod Brown is running against this guy. I thank that guy for explicitly articulating the GQPer philosophy that low income people are stupid and lazy and deserve no help from the government.

Those poor people can't even find their own bootstraps!

"Sen. Jon Husted: "People living in poverty are just not very, um, experienced at navigating the real world, right? I remember talking to one young lady who said, 'Well, I don't really know how money works at a grocery store,' because she grew up and has lived all of her adult life using SNAP cards to buy groceries. You literally have to teach people how to budget ... the buzzword today, let's face it, is 'affordability.'"

Since Republicans have fully taken over the Ohio state government, they have repeatedly cut state income tax at the expense of education. Some wealthier, mostly suburban districts have increased property taxes to offset the reduction in state funding, but poorer districts in the rural counties and bigger cities with more poverty have been unable to make up those cuts. So Husted is complaining about a situation he has been fully complicit in creating and perpetuating.
