American Eagle Jeans Commercials

Have you ever considered that perhaps whatever social media fever swamps you swim around in are manipulating you to be mad about something completely trivial and inconsequential?
Its pretty telling that the only folks proclaiming it to be a viral sensation that is riling up liberals are those who consume copious quantities of right wing media.

For me, I had no idea the ad existed before this thread and I'm certainly not outraged by it in the least. I actually think the play on genes vs jeans was clever.

It's not the ad that is interesting to me (pretty garden variety ad featuring a girl and a car), it's the left's reflexive reaction to it, labeling it NAZI propaganda.
The right wing internet says the left is freaking out about it. I'm pretty plugged in to "the left" and have heard nothing about it. I think you got suckered.

To be clear this is not the reaction of "the left" it is the reaction of a tiny minority of people, mostly on TikTok. And then a counter-reaction stoked by rage-baiting aimed at right wingers.

As I have already said I think it's a huge overreaction to think there is anything nefarious about these ads, but whatever you think about Trump's personal beliefs, he is running what is openly and unashamedly the most white nationalist-friendly administration in our history, and that's putting some people on edge. It's just that American Eagle and Sydney Sweeney are the exact wrong targets for anger.
Fair. Mostly people under 30 on Tik Tok who've never seen traditional - All American - advertising. Advertising has been so woke it's jarring to them.

It is hilarious. A bunch of whiney blue haired females with nose rings crying and complaining about a pretty white girl in an ad. Libs of TikTok performs an invaluable service of providing me (and other conservatives) the feeds since I'm certainly not on TikTok.

Wait. Serious question here. What do you think the the goal of advertising? Do you see the goal as to sell product (which 99.99999% of people think is the right answer), or is the goal to advance a political agenda?

If the goal is to advance a political agenda, even at the expense of sales, how in the everloving fuck are advertising agencies convincing companies to pay them for that?

And if the goal is to sell product, why in the everloving fuck are you suggesting that companies should be conveying a different message because you think the message they've determined will sell the most product is too "woke"?

I'm giving you the benefit of the doubt that you're a free-market capitalist, but if you're actually in favor of some form of political market manipulation, it would be really helpful for us to know that going forward.

Are the whiney blue haired females with nose rings in the room with you right now?

The fact that you think Libs of tiktok provides any kind of positive to this world just confirms the giant piece of shit you are

Free market all the way. The goal of advertising is obviously to sell products but that doesn't keep companies from making really stupid decisions. If Bud Light wished to tank their sales and ruin their brand by featuring a dude in a dress then that's their business. Same with Disney and Jaguar. Go Woke Go Broke became a thing for a reason. We're now moving past peak woke and into a new, more free, era.
