Neither has Chris Matthews in general
I had forgotten about Chris Matthews. My friends who were conservative back in the 90s and 00s (they have since bailed from conservatism, at least as we understand it to be in American politics) liked him and thought of him as a liberal-leaning pundit with common sense. I took him to be someone who falsely claimed to be a liberal but railed against democrats because he’d figured out that grift. Sort of an old school version of Bari Weiss, or TV personality version of what Tulsi Gabbard tried to be. Anyway, I guess nothing’s changed.

You know, when I see these polls I get angry. Not so much because 38% is still way too high, which it is. Rather, it’s because we had seen this move before. It was ill-conceived, poorly directed, and full of bad actors. It was a disaster of a movie. But many of those who currently disapprove asked for a sequel. And they did that despite an ad campaign telling us that the sequel would be even worse than the first movie. And now we’re all stuck watching this godawful sequel.

I watch some podcasts/streams where Dems debate MAGA and so many people voted for Trump because they just knew his name and didn't know Kamala's. Can't tell you one thing or the other about policy from either, they just knew the name Trump and went with it.

It's insane.

The comments I get from the folks who voted for Trump and are now disappointed, is always some version of "how can I regret my vote when the Democrats are so bad." And I'm not talking about the strong right wing voters. I am getting that from people who could vote either way until recent years.

Because the Democrats couldn’t elevate their alternative above the level of godawful.

to be fair you can't expect Trump's approval to drop much below 38%. MAGAs make up around 35% of the polls and they have forgiven him for being a rapist, a child sex molester, a grifter and a grafter using his presidency to rake in billions for his crime family. It is unreasonable to think they abandon him in large numbers just because he is wrecking the economy and hurting them yet again.

Actually, I'm somewhat encouraged seeing 38% approval ratings. To me it indicates the few republicans who live on earth 1 moving away from him.

Its is the same reason we get eight Fast and Furious movies. The low information voters that swing elections make all kind of decisions for the rest of society. It is one of the primary problems with democracy. But it is better than the alternatives.

That's one reason the Republicans win when Trump is on the ballot. He actually moved to the center (or where they are at) on some issues that appeal to these voters. They show up for him.
