Don’t tax me Libertarians. Somewhat common among engineers. Big on “law and ORDER.” Probably big on “closed borders.” But, want a good landscaping crew and good construction workers at low rates.

Look at an engineering curriculum. It’s possible to go through college barely reading a book, fiction or non-fiction.

They’ve been this way for 40-50 years.
I started Mech Engr in the fall of 85 at Clemson. As I recall, we had 17 hours of free electives plus one or two English electives. That was it; everything else was technical and all classes except for a few tech electives were prescribed. I suspect ABET requirements don't leave much room for anything else in a 4 year profram. I have always thought that is unfortunate.

So yes, a lot of engineers, including me, miss out on good philosophy, psyc, lit, history, religion, etc. That sucks. However, my son finished Mech Engr at State last spring, and he has talked about some "softer" required engineering classes like ethics. So maybe things have improved since I was in school.

This is a month old, but still...

President Trump's approval rating on his longtime political calling card — the economy — has sunk to 31%, the lowest it has been across both of his terms as president, according to a new survey from The Associated Press-NORC.

Why it matters: The decline in the approval rating comes as the administration is working to take on an affordability crisis that has been weighing on consumers.

State students are conservative compared to UNC and Duke students, but I would be shocked if they actually leaned right. Almost all college towns vote for the Democratic candidate. Obviously, that is a lot of professors (because many students vote in their home town) but the 18-22 age group skews strongly left -- even acknowledging bro culture from the last election. State is half female, and has a significant growing Asian enrollment.
My brother, father, sister and nephews/nieces all went to NC State and they all hate Trump and MAGA. The only MAGA in my family is a sister who went to ECU and married a man without a college degree and they’ve lived their whole life in Eastern NC.

How would you characterize the politics of your NC State relatives ?

There are a few conservatives who hate Trump and MAGA...
