Probably because they aren't real Christians. They are Jews for Jesus. What Jesus said, did and preached is of little interest to them. They want Old Testament revenge and behavior codes.

No, not blaming Judiasm. Just making fun of the Christians who care next to nothing for Jesus' teachings.
Then the joke is stupid because the post certainly reads as if the problem with right-wing Christians is the Hebrew Bible. If Christians want reasons to be dicks, they can find plenty in the New Testament.

OT was approved by Jesus. NT by committee some hundreds of years after Jesus. Since nobody knows who wrote the Gospels and Paul was a usurper and fraud, the NT should be taken with a grain of salt.

I guess most of my life (70 yrs ) Evangelicals have been on the Wrong side of the arc of society trying to treat folks with respect. So it should be expected they pull for a guy that spews hate towards Non white Non female citizens
Overlooking his own very "sinful " life makes it more difficult to understand for sure
The Good news is that so many Protestant Churches are splitting-with one side championing equality

You might want to re-think your take here. You write as if Judaism is in essence a religion of revenge and behavior codes.

This characterization of it comes mostly from hostile Christian apologists beginning with Paul, and not from the Mishnah or Talmud or rabbinic Judaism itself.

1. Sometimes jokes are stupid. Mine too. Perhaps mine especially. I didn't mean to offend you, and if I did, I apologize. Obviously you are right about the NT in that way.
2. The larger point behind the joke draws on a thread that was discussed here a couple of months ago. I think it was the poster TarSpiel who talked about his relationship with Bart Ehrman, and how Bart Ehrman identified that the main thrust of Jesus' teachings was the protection of vulnerable groups, and in particular migrants, orphans, the poor, and two others that I don't remember specifically.

And if you look at right-wing Christianity, those are the groups they shit on the most. Hence my charge (and the charge of many, many Christians) that they are fake or at least uneducated about their own religion.

how can I justify the evangelical Christians voting for president who a judge has stated is guilty of Rape, tried to overthrow our constitutional government, and all the other stuff he has done and said about groups of people. How could a Gracious God allow this to happen with all the love of the Christian Right? HOW?

I've been struggling with this question ever since Trump got 83% of the white evangelical vote in 2016. And I got nothing. And I grew up white evangelical. And religious studies is, like, my job. Man.

I guess the thing that jumps out at me the most is that the word *white* does a lot of heavy lifting in this conversation.

Lets not forget the Catholic Church's "stance" on all things Female

1. My take is somewhat derived from your discussion of Bart Ehrman. I mean, I had that take before, but what you posted was educational and clarifying.
2. I'm not trying to say anything about Judaism. Obviously, fundamentalist Jews do see their religion as one of revenge and behavior codes, but that's true of a lot of religions. What I was really talking about was the right-wing Christian take on the OT -- who clearly accept Paul and the other critics, and who are ignorant of the Talmud and Mishnah.
3. I think the problem here is my Jews For Jesus quip. I thought it was witty. Others, apparently, disagree. I think I should retire the line.

Does part of the answer concern the emergence of a "Christian" market? Christian booksellers in the 80s didn't want to sell books targeted to Episcopalians or Presbyterians or Lutherans. And so a style of Christian consumerism emerged that drowned out finer doctrinal points. What we're left with is a Christian "culture" almost completely severed from any sense of traditions, teachings, etc.

I've been thinking of asking my pastor exactly this. Genuinely curious what the reasoning might be. And I'm pretty certain my entire congregation (not to mention everyone at my childrens' Christian school) voted for Trump. How can any true Christian justify this??

Lol wtf are you talking about. Do you mean "orthodox" or "ultraorthodox" Jews? As a whole, they certainly do not see their religion as one of revenge or behavior codes.
