There's a certain poster with a Slim Jim between his legs and coconut milk between his ears who decided to graffiti the board and completely ruin a thread.

Super ignore does nothing to prevent this POS from destroying others' experience on the board. The content of these posts was personal, accusatory and confrontational. The intellectual content of them is zero.

If there are no consequences for this behavior, then I will be reassessing whether this is a productive place to spend my time. It's only going to get worse. Give a MAGA an inch, and they will try to take a mile, always. It's why they are MAGA, after all -- they lack self-control and self-reflection, which have been squeezed out by the metastatic puerility to make room for more bullshit generators. Let this go and it will take not long at all for that to become the norm.

I don't like that certain posters are a waste of bandwidth but I'm not much for banning unless there's some attempt to take something to real life. I'm not going to be upset either way so do whatever the board agrees is best for them. I'm just not affected by what gets said here. I'm interested in honest discussions and I can entertain myself and be entertained by some of the dishonest ones. I think their mental gymnastics might equal those at the Cirque du Soleil show I'm going to Thursday.

Ruining the board experience of other people should also qualify.
They have the ignore function as well. As I said, I'm fine with what the board decides but I don't need someone else to defend my delicate sensibilities since I don't have any. I'm fine with you raising the question but you seem to feel the need to push it. Why?

Yeah, but if you try to use ignore on a thread where dozens of posts have been spammed, it becomes unreadable.

I think its another opportunity for him to declare he is quitting the board. I believe that this is either the third or fourth time in the last month and I'm guessing he is the most prolific poster during that period.

If anyone is worried that he won't follow through on his threat, your fears are not misplaced.

I guess. I don't use ignore. After almost 50 years of marriage , I can ignore things even with sound effects, not just the written word. The main thing though is that the words don't matter if the opinion doesn't.

Geez you are the Trump of this board. If you dont get your way or someone critiques your pov you whine and pout more than any poster ive ever seen.

LOL. What's actually happening is that you're projecting your obsession with me. All I asked for is that posters not flame threads, and if they do so -- which they already know is against the rules -- then there should be consequences so the board doesn't devolve into flame wars.

There is a limit as to what is reasonable to spam the board with. I mean you're a douche bag who whines incessantly and then proclaims nothing bothers him on most threads, but I don't think you've reached it yet.

Trying to maintain room for a wide range of dialog and adults to speak frankly to each other is a dicey proposition. I'm not even sure which poster is being targeted in this post, TBH, but one of the things we've tried to establish is to allow participants to somewhat self-police and otherwise design their own experience through liberal (or no) use of the ignore features for posters, threads and topics.

There are no perfect or obviously correct solutions, as far as I can tell, especially as in a free (non-monetized though from time to time we will rely on the kindness of posters to cover the costs of using the platform/memory storage requirements) backwater like this one that frankly relies on volunteer efforts of a couple of people who can't be here and monitor it 24/7.

Unfortunately, there have been some occasions where we have had to ban posters who refuse to operate in relative good faith. We do our best to respond to reports of posters going over the line and try to find resolutions where there seem to be someone losing their cool or at least willing to tone things down to continue to participate.

Calla posted 19 times in a row, quoting each individual poster he wanted to attack and calling them a hypocrite. 19! It's very close to an entire page of flame posts.

all after 2 AM. dude was likely hammered. sad stuff.

has he reappeared yet today?

I cleaned it up a bit, but left his general complaint intact -- the hypocrite/respect assignments strike me more as annoying that ban-worthy (subject to it continuing to happen to derail threads).

With ignore and super ignore functions as robust as the ones on this board, there is very little reason to ban someone short of spamming (i.e., posting clickbait or virus-laden links), hate speech, or threats of violence. A poster annoying someone else is not a reason to ban that poster. Simply ignore them and move on.

That's what he was doing -- spamming and flaming.

I have no issue with him voicing a general complaint. I have an issue with posting 19 times in a row flaming each individual poster.
