That's what he was doing -- spamming and flaming.
No, he was annoying you. If you had simply placed him on super ignore, you wouldn't have seen a single one of those posts. The "spamming" I am referring to is similar to what you see on Facebook....bot accounts posting fake links that take you to a virus.

I have no issue with him voicing a general complaint. I have an issue with posting 19 times in a row flaming each individual poster.
And now you have posted 7 times (and counting) in a thread you started about him. Why? Birds of a feather.

Sigh. It's 7 posts in the context of a discussion. It isn't 19 times in a row with no intellectual content. Again, the reason that people doubt MAGAs ability to engage in intelligent discussion is that MAGAs keep demonstrating that incapacity. My 10 year old understands that these two things are not alike. Why can't you?

If only there was a button that you could click that would ensure that you could enact your own personal ban on a poster that you find to be annoying. Then, you'd never have to see their posts again. Mods, do you think you could enable such a feature? Maybe something that would let you "Super Ignore" someone?

There is a limit as to what is reasonable to spam the board with. I mean you're a douche bag who whines incessantly and then proclaims nothing bothers him on most threads, but I don't think you've reached it yet.
Would you like a Kleenex to go with your name calling or will your mom bring you a box to the basement?

Super ignore does not solve the problem. You have to login to super ignore. Plenty of people lurk. They don't necessarily have to or want to login to follow discussions.

Furthermore, super ignore does nothing for a person considering joining the community. You seem to assume that the collection of posters we have now will be the same forever.

Basically, what you're suggesting is that we let people throw shit all over the floor of a retail establishment just because we can work from home or in the back and don't have to see it. But it's still a store with shit scattered everywhere.

FWIW here’s my advice:

In my 25+ years of doing these UNC sports-related message boards (here, IC, ACCBoards), I have only hit the “ignore” button once. And that was a poster who was was spamming the boards with complete incoherent nonsense. This poster made incoherent posts every few minutes that would take up a good chunk of any thread. That poster had to be ignored because it became a serious challenge to get through any thread that poster spammed. They ended up getting banned after about a day so it was no longer an issue.

To me, that poster very much warranted an exception to the rule of not ignoring posters because the spamming was so unbelievably prolific and distracting.

Other than that, I’m capable of ignoring posts I don’t want to read by just not reading them. If there is a poster whose posts are generally worthless, I can easily skip over those posts without having to the hit the “ignore” button on the poster.

So if you do wish to ignore a poster, I recommend just doing it the old fashioned way. I have yet to see a poster on this board who has spammed it to such a degree that I can’t skip over their posts and read through a thread with no problem.

That's fine. But we should have a clear rule about it. 19 flaming posts in a row is almost an entire page. It definitely disrupted my reading of the thread. We should make it clear what is and isn't acceptable.

Going after each individual poster in a separate post is excessive by any standard; it's antisocial; and it amounts to little more than graffiti.

the posts were kind of annoying but come across as more of a meltdown / cry for help to me.

middle of the night, personally attacking a bunch of people who they don't know from Adam.

weird and sad stuff from that poster. not all that surprising, their posts and general schtick were pretty awful on IC, too.

And what you are saying is that a retail establishment should ban someone because you don't like what they are wearing.

The board works well as-is. Super ignore is an amazing feature. If you attempted to use it instead of attempting to run the board, you might like it.

No. I'm talking about someone spreading shit. Not the general idea, that could have been expressed in a single post. If that poster wants to accuse everyone else of hypocrisy, that's fine. But spamming the board is crap, and it's of course par for the course for you to simply ignore it because it doesn't fit your narrative.

Why do you find it so hard to accurately characterize someone's ideas when criticizing them? I don't fight straw men. Sometimes I even build up the opposing argument so I'm arguing against the best version of an idea. You don't have to do the latter, but the amount of effort you fools put into mischaracterizing posts in order to then issue a criticism is astounding.

As a general rule, if you can't respond to an alternate view without caricaturing it, then you've got a bad view and you should reconsider. That's how intelligent, educated, reflective people do it, anyway.

You are making a mountain out of a molehill. The mods gave you a feature that would solve this problem. You simply refuse to use it.

What part of "the feature does not help lurkers or potential new posters" did you not understand? I'm so tired of posters who pretend to have the intellectual abilities of a child,.

Are you a lurker or a new poster? Why not wait until one of them raises a concern about this imaginary issue?

Ignore and Super Ignore don’t “solve” the problem.

I had callatoroy on Super Ignore; so, I didn’t see his posts on this thread.

What I was seeing was that this thread had new posts on it. I couldn’t see the last page of the thread. So, I unignored callatoroy and another poster; I could see the last page.

Then, I simply didn’t read his posts (or any responses to his posts).

Are you really asking me to explain why I am not waiting for posts from people who don't or can't post? REALLY?

And for what it's worth, I don't login with my phone because sometimes my boys use it to do Legos, and I don't want them seeing this if they were to click on it. So yeah, there's no way to block it under those circumstances.

Perfect can't be the enemy of good. The Super Ignore feature works well enough. Some people (not you) just want to hear themselves talk. This board should not cater to them. I can't imagine refusing to self-ban a poster and then demanding that the mods do it because I'm too self righteous to click on a simple button that would largely solve my problem.
