Leonard Peltier is 80 years old, almost certainly in poor health, and will be still confined -- just at home.

How could anyone get bent out of shape about this commutation? I mean, seriously. The guy has spent virtually his entire adult life in prison. This is exactly what the pardon/commutation power is for. Joe took mercy on an aged man about whom there have been questions as to his guilt. Why is this a bad thing?

I don't know that I have faith in the system, but I have some hope that the system can be restored to a place where it is worth having faith in.

At the end of the day, the system works about as well as the electorate votes for it to. We've been on a pretty lengthy run of a significant portion of the electorate voting for it to not function well and to not be trustworthy, but my hope that in the future a different electorate will do something different.
 
All this hand-wringing over Biden's pardons and then Trump comes out and pardons over 1500 January 6 rioters, including ones who committed violent acts, is just too rich. Trumpers need to stop discussing Biden's pardons, because whatever credibility they thought they had just went out the window with Trump's pardon of the January 6 rioters.
 
Yeah keep thinking that. Trump campaigned on pardoning non violent J6’ers (he commuted more violent 6) through out his campaign. He made it a campaign promise. Biden, pardoned his individuals on the eve of his leaving office - in the case of his scummy family 15 minutes before he left office. Big difference.

So you’re legit fucking proud that Trump kept a promise to pardon/commute those who he incited to commit crimes….but you’re angry at Biden for pardoning folks who’ve committed no crimes but who Trump has vowed to prosecute as political enemies.
