Bosides!!

If he has received credible threats of being shot from his security people or via other means, then sure. But geez, Marge Green has been detested by the left for the last 10 years, but only after Trump turned on her a couple days ago did she have to actually hire private security.

And now you see why he eats dinner with Trump. They aren't far off at all from being precisely the same insecure yet arrogant asshole.

He is a narcissist just like Trump. But he thinks he is cool because he's an "independent", but he really just says what he thinks will make him more money. He actually just doesn't give a damn either way.

Maher is such a self-important blowhard. No one cares enough about him to try to make him take a dirt nap.

There's no Bill Maher thread, and I don't think there needs to be a dedicated one either, but I was using this one as a surrogate for what he announced today about his stand up.

But the main thing is, you don't have to click on a thread if you don't want to read it. There is also an ignore thread feature.

I used to watch Maher's show. But then Covid happened. And I decided that I wasn't going to let Maher pull a Dennis Miller on me. Yes, I admit it. I once watched and enjoyed Dennis Miller's humor. But once Miller went all in on Sheriff Joe Arpaio I realized that not only had he gone crazy, but he had been crazy all along. So Covid was my Joe Arpaio moment with Maher.

We all have those moments and those folks. Maher can be tremendously funny...or could be. I dont knownif he has that ability anymore because most of what he says is deeply devoid of joy and humor.

I saw Maher do standup in Charlotte in February 2020, right before the pandemic hit. We had to go through metal detectors to get into the show. This was at a venue that did not otherwise have metal detectors. No biggie, as most events these days require going through security. But it seems to me that, as long as there are security measures such as that, he probably doesn’t need to worry about much.

Maher’s standup is terrible anyway. When he’s funny it’s in the context of his show, and off the cuff. His written bits and monologues on the show were never great.

But either way, haven’t watched his show in ages because he’s one of those people who even when you agree with him, you still kinda want to smack him.

+1000. I never liked him even when he was popular among many liberals back in his prime 15 or more years ago. He's always struck me as very smug, arrogant, self-satisfied, etc. It doesn't really surprise me that he seems to have turned more to the right as he's gotten older.

he turned to an old frustrated comedian in front of our eyes and sympathizes with the old man in power... and just tries to prove his points on the show rather than have a real debate which I think is his biggest flaw. He clearly tries to steer the conversations towards his views
