Biorhythms for Carolina @SMU: 2:15 Start on CW

I know.

I’m not a Hubert hater either. But there have clearly been major issues during his tenure. I don’t think pointing those out makes anyone a hater.
But that and other commentary can/does.

As for blow-outs. I’d like to look more deeply into that. First years of a rookie coach? Covid effect? Recent years and new pace practices? New roster turnover patterns? Remember when Coach Davis asserted that Carolina wasn’t a pit stop program or school? Does that ideal have any bearing?

It seems to me that an awful lot of Herbert Haters didn’t really appreciate Coach Smith or Coach Williams that much or at least Coach Williams but had far too much admiration for the dook/Rat 5-months and outta there practice. I’d rather lose games than my big picture identity. I love Carolina as much as I love Carolina basketball.

But that’s me I know and it takes all kinds. And my way of seeing is essentially history moving forward.

Still, some of those statistics I would love to see.

SMU starts four seniors. None of them started their careers at SMU. They have for the most part been at SMU for at least two years. This is the new reality in CBB and it's going to be really hard for anyone to stay at the top consistently. There are going to be upstart teams every year, and quality teams in the mid tiers of P5. That's going to come at the expense of the mid majors and smaller schools, and the ability for anyone to be really good year in year out

You are such a good friend. I love your perspective. Truly my friend.

There can be multiple factors as to why Hubert has been so inconsistent.

But he has been. I don’t think he’s coached up to UNC standards. Not when half of the seasons are so bad.
But that’s me.

That’s what happens in blowouts. The game gets away.

It was close for a while but then we got blown out.
We were down 4 with 8 min to go. That isn't "close for a while." The game was decided in a four minute spurt that immediately followed. If you want to call that a blowout, fine it's just words but I think you're using it to lump it in with true beatdowns.

I am guilty of that. I admit it.

Still we ended up taking a beat down.

A big part of the problem is that the teams' roles haven't yet been established. That's still a work in progress, which happens when a) practically every player is new; b) one of the key players missed a bunch of time; and c) several of the players have been way below expectations in terms of shooting in a way that has impacted their PT.

Again, SMU has 5 seniors, 4 who start. Everyone knows their role. They didn't have any eligibility issues. They are going to look better.

If we're still playing this way in mid-Feb, there's a problem but this isn't a bad loss. Remember the 97 team that started 3-5 in the ACC, including some bad losses. Then won 16 straight. That was largely because the PGs finally started to get it. And that team also had some issues as to roles. I doubt that we win 16 straight this year because that's very rare but I'm not going to get bummed losing an early Jan road game to a good team who shot the lights out.

Well, the biorhythms pretty much called it. I didn't calculate much of a home court advantage (I mentioned that in my write-up) because it was the holiday break. Had I done so I would, instead of call it SMU by 6, that margin would have been more like 13 or 14.

As I have written before...I'm a homer of the strongest stripe and it is difficult for me to call a game for an opponent, instead I try and figure out a way that a win can happen...that was a tough one today...hard to see, biorhythmically or not, how we could win.

Once the dam broke, as is often the case, the hot squad piled on as the team behind resorted to gambling.

SMU played lights out. They might not play a better half all season than that 2H

It felt like Veesaar/Wilson didn’t have it early and that was indeed the case

Need to sort the backcourt situation out quick. 11 mins for Powell?

We aren't missing shots. We've actually shot pretty well. The problem is that SMU is shooting gangbusters in the second half.
Like I said, you guys can chalk it up to whatever you want. I could say that the sky is blue and you and superific would respond with a pedantic essay about how it’s actually red.
