Biorhythms for UNC @dook: 6:30 Start

This is nonsense. Neither Dook player compares at all to the loss of Caleb Wilson. I saw Caleb outplay Boozer and look like the pro player and possible top pick doing so. He was better than Boozer, more fluid and looks like a pro playing with kids. His game really emphasized how Boozer’s game is below the rim and how he will struggle in the NBA.

No the team that was handicapped the most tonight was UNC and everyone who is honest knows it.
I wasn’t arguing about who was handicapped the most.

Wilson is an amazing player, has a wonderful personality and attitude, but he’s not as good of a player as Boozer is, right now.

Explain what you mean by saying we’re entitled and why you are not entitled.
Easy.

You = whiny spoiled broken record spouting constant negativity about the coach and team because these aren’t the results I deserve and am entitled to and hmmph I’m mad about it!

Me = *not* whiny spoiled broken record spouting constant negativity about the coach and team because these aren’t the results I deserve and am entitled to and hmmph I’m mad about it!

This is the point:
“The early defensive strategy, they were trying to protect the frontcourt from fouls, and they probably thought after the second half foul tally in Chapel Hill, the officials might be trying to subconsciously or consciously even that up. And so they said ‘you’ve got these lesser guys, let’s see if they can beat us.’ It wasn’t a great strategy, but they just don’t have the personnel.

“The thing to keep in mind, Duke was without two guys, and you wouldn’t have known because they have such an army of talent. Even guys who don’t play that much for them can come in and they can easily compete with the Carolina guys. What stood out to me in this game, other than the things that we’ve discussed, is how much the backcourt especially, and wings, need an upgrade. The Heels going into portal season here very soon have got to make it happen with that type of talent, because you can’t get a Caleb Wilson every year. And, even if you do have one, there’s a pretty big gap between the two teams right now and it’s UNC’s job to close it.”

I was surprised to see how much of a discrepancy there is between the two teams this year, a year in which we’ve put an incredible amount of money and resources into the program.
In my opinion we have over performed given our talent level (and obvious injuries). Money spent is relative to what you have available to you.

Had we connected on our first target in nick boyd, and not settled for Evans we’d be in far better shape. Unfortunately we also reached and gambled on Luka because we kinda had to.

There’s also just certain players that were never going to come here like Flagg and boozer and dook got very lucky to get two generational talents back to back. Nothing we can do about that. Money and resources had nothing to do with that.

Got it. Yes, nothing is owed but that doesn’t mean it’s right to enable subpar results.

There are a lot of other teams who were outplaying us, at full strength, than Duke. If it’s a talent disparity or ill-constructed roster then that’s also on the staff.

We haven’t had subpar results. We’re due a 5 seed with 1 McD AA player and he’s been injured. We have had a great year.

Did Coach Smith have subpar results im 1996 with 5 NBA players on his roster? He had Jamison, Carter, McGinnis, Zwikker, Shammond Williams, sr guard calabria. They were a six seed. People would have fired Hubert if he managed just that with all that talent.

Dook is probably spending twice as much or more than us per player across the roster. Should a public university try to match that? My vote is no. At some point this obscene society we’re building by greed, indifference and neglect will come crashing down.

I wouldn’t call it a great year by any stretch (great years are years where we are among the favorites to win a national championship), but it has been a solid year and we have surpassed just about anyone’s expectations of what we would accomplish with Wilson out.

Fair enough yeah. Great year should be reserved for final fours + some.

We have had a good year and I’ve been satisfied with the results and performances.

I keep hearing about how we're on equal ground but are you telling me that Cooper Flagg got all this without his Duke connection playing a part? Not saying that there's anything wrong if they are connected . I'm just saying I don't see a "subsidy" like that getting past our BoT. It would, however cast doubt on how level that playing field is.

Cooper Flagg reportedly secured approximately $28 million in Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) deals during his lone season at Duke University. This total primarily includes a reported $13 million deal with New Balance and a $15 million contract with Fanatics.

I’m curious. How public is this kind of information?

I was talking about HD’s tenure overall. Regarding that team, I honestly don’t remember how developed they were compared to the rest of college basketball. I wouldn’t base it off of name recognition, and future level of performance. I don’t know.

1996 was a different era, however. People expected teams that relied heavily on freshmen to struggle some back then. At the time, no one expected much from Shammond, who was essentially an unknown recruit and got very little playing time his freshman year (the year before). And people didn’t expect too much from Zwikker, who played somewhat sparingly in his first two seasons. There was a general expectation for a down year after losing Stackhouse, Wallace, Donald Williams, and two of the main bench players (Landry and Sullivan).

And there was also context based on Dean Smith’s resume. Not only did he have a long history of high level success, but he had taken the team to 3 Final Fours in the previous 5 seasons and had won a national championship 3 seasons before.

It was the following season, 1996-97, when Dean took a lot of heat as the team had significant early season struggles, starting off conference play at 3-5.

Caleb signed with New Balance as well. So it’s not that you have to go to Duke to get deals.

I think an important question, assuming that by going to Duke you get more from the same companies as you’re implying, is why is that the case. Why would a company invest more in player x than they would in player y, how does going to Duke factor in, etc?
