Biorhythms for UNC v Navy, 7 pm in The Dean E. Smith Center

Hubert just trying to build some depth during the early games but it is readily apparent that neither High nor Brown can be trusted in a critical game.
Hopefully if we make the finals this year, neither of them will be put in during the closing minutes of a close game and miss a 3 that they had no business taking. But we'll see...

No. Won't know until he gets his cast off.
Obviously worst case scenario is that he doesn't return at all, but what would be best case (within reason, of course) scenario? Is it within the realm of reasonable possibility that an injury like his could be healed up enough for him to be playing by, say, early January? Early Feb? Or is it just one of those absolutely no way to predict kinda things (which would seem odd given that injuries similar to his surely have occurred many times in the history of sports)...

Best case scenario I think is somewhere around here…

I would be a little harsher than that. We were flat for about 30 out of 40 minutes. Wilson sparked one great 6-8 minute period by going nuclear; outside of that it was not a good performance, though the last five minutes where we basically assumed the game was over early was definitely the worst.

It’s certainly true that every team will have flat games like this in similar situations. Nothing that worries me too greatly. But I do worry we’re a little overdependent on Wilson for energy and passion at the moment. Everyone else feeds off him, which is great when he’s fired up, but not so much when he’s not.
Fair point. I’m fine with the team sleepwalking through a game like this every now and then as long as it doesn’t become a pattern, but I think the expectation should be that we jump all over the cupcake teams and blow them out easily most of the time. In recent seasons where we’ve struggled, one of the early red flags has been playing with our food against inferior teams in the non-con.

I'm sure this has been discussed on another thread, so apologies, but do we have a reasonable expectation of when Seth will be returning?
soon GIF

The expectation is 6-8 weeks from surgery last week, but that could be complicated by a number of factors.

The first 6 are set when Trimble gets back. Right now there is a big drop off after that. Maybe Dixon, Powell or Young can step up and contribute more off the bench. High and Brown just aren't good enough to back up Veesaar and Stevensen. When there was more than 1 bench player on the floor last night the lead always got less and less. I think the way Navy plays made it a clunky game, too. It was hard to really get a good flow going against them. It sounds like the team wasn't happy about the performance since they had a players only meeting.

We are not a very athletic team, but that doesn't mean we can't be very good. I will save my opinion until we have a larger sample to work with.

We may not be "very" athletic 12 man roster overall, but with Seth added to Cdub and Jarin - that trio is about as athletic - or more - as most 5 man squads put together. Evans can hold his on there too (he just had a terrible night shooting the ball). Powell also fills that bill pretty well too, in terms of athleticism, but he also struggled to score last night - heck he struggled to even get a shot off. Veesar and Luka are Euro-white-boy athletic hahaha.

Seems like I can only remember a single Carolina team blowing out everyone and that was the Hansbrough Senior Year squad.

Strange to already have a players only meeting. I guess I like the initiative, but 4 games in? Seems like they just need to play harder and with more focus. The defense in the first few games was great. Last night was awful - lazy and poor communication. I like this team so much better than last year, but there are certainly questions.
Luka can provide some offense, but not a great defender. Slow.
Evans - not sold on him. Has been hesitant to shoot the last couple of games. If open, he needs to be shooting. Decent Defender. Not sure what the staff thought he would bring other than making some 3's.
Dixon - I wouldn't be shocked if Dixon ends up being better than Evans towards the end of the year.
Stevenson - Withers 2.0 - Some great plays and some boneheaded mistakes. If he can rebound, defend and make a few 3's, we'll take it.
Veesaar - Has been better than I expected. Great addition. Will probably get abused by bigger, stronger 5's, but will take the good with the bad.
Young - Probably shouldn't see the court. He's been a TO machine and terrible on defense.
Powell - Up and down as expected. If he can make a couple 3's each game, that's what we need from him.
High/ Brown - They both just need to play defense and rebound. High is fouling at a higher rate than sophomore year Hicks, which seems impossible. He just plays too recklessly. I'd personally rather see Brown if he can learn how to not move on screens.

Obviously need Seth back - he makes the defense so much better. I'd really like to see us not switch if Veesaar if in the game. He keeps ending up on the 6'-1" pg and is going to get worked.

I think this is a Top15 team, but not yet. Without Seth, we'll lose a few of the upcoming games. Hoping Navy was an outlier as the team had seemed pretty cohesive in the previous games.

High is much worse than expected. And I didn’t expect much. Legitimately not sure why he’s still on the team

With Seth it’s a strong 6 that I think is up there with many of the best teams this season

But huuuge drop at 7-9. Little room for error/additional injuries going forward. Veesaaar need as many mins as he can play

I think a players only meeting after this game shows that the players have high expectations and realize that this game didn't meet those expectations. I take this as a good sign after a game like that.

After the performance yesterday and some of the body language and frustration, certainly more encouraging that they’re having the meeting than not. Though, i would say a players only meeting 5 games into the year is usually not a great sign

I'm more encouraged than discouraged overall by Evans. 5 apg is to start the year is very good

There were legitimate questions of who would lead this team in apg and if that number would be over 3. Not sure I've noticed too many open shots he's passed up and agree he should be taking them

I do worry about what the scoring from him looks like in games where the bigs can't do anything they want to

Stevenson - Withers 2.0 - Some great plays and some boneheaded mistakes. If he can rebound, defend and make a few 3's, we'll take it.

I was perhaps the biggest Withers supporter but this feels disrespectful to Stevenson. The ceiling with Jarin is much higher

For one he's 5 years younger than Withers, which is hard to believe. He is considerably better at guarding smaller players and just being in the right position on defense. Less foul and turnover prone

He does need to shoot it better and TBD if that is possible. I feel like his mechanics/release are decent but it has never been consistent

Even that team had some tighter-than-expected early wins against teams like Penn (15 points), UC Santa Barbara (17 points), Oral Roberts (16 points), and Evansville (18 points), and went 0-2 to start ACC play, including a home loss to unranked BC.
