Agreed, but there is an endless stream of "contributors" on Fox and Newsmax and OAN who spew as bad or worse every day, and yet nothing usually happens to them. Dowd says something offensive and gets fired - and he should have - but there's no denying that conservative TV networks don't usually hold their own to the same standards.

This can't be - we were repeatedly told yesterday by various posters that it's just liberals who are engaging in dangerous rhetoric and wanting to kill people and start a civil war and so forth and so on. And yet here are all of these conservative talking heads saying that they're in a war with liberals and calling for retribution. Unpossible!

The more time passes and the more suspects are interrogated and released as not involved, the more likely it becomes that the shooter might actually get away with this crime.

Still plenty of time for forensics to lead to the rooftop assassin, and hopefully a pretty clear-cut case.

But I find myself wondering which will be worse — the feeding frenzy that will erupt when someone is charged to rip apart his (or her) life for shreds of political fodder, or the long term conspiracy food that would arise from the shooter never being found (or there being insufficient evidence to charge a named suspect).

I have so little interest in this back and forth. I don't even care about Kirk's politics at this point. What happened is fucking terrible - full stop. Whether he was killed by someone on the Left or the Right or because Kirk was a celebrity of some renown and he was killed by a stalker is kind of irrelevant. I feel like we on the Left could sit the "who is worse" fight out this time. There really are no political points to score here.

I woke up this morning (I'm currently overseas - so this happened while I was asleep) - opened twitter and at the top of my "for you" was a close up cut video of Kirk getting shot through the neck. That's how I started my day at 5 am. Then I read about - ANOTHER - school shooting. I feel like the SpongeBob meme about sitting this one out.

I would sit it out if they weren’t literally calling for me and people I love to be labeled as terrorists and killed due only to our political affiliation. At that point I can’t sit it out.
 
We can discuss the current political climate, which at best is dangerous and unhealthy. And there are people from both sides contributing to that. But we all know this is traced back to one man. Trump. We saw this shit during his first administration. We were fortunate enough then that there were guardrails in place that kept t somewhat contained. There are no guardrails in place this time... and the things this administration is doing will continue to incite this type of violence. It's only going to get worse.

Nobody here on “the left” is trying to score political points. We’re pointing out that two of the posters who came in hot like a bat shot out of hell yesterday running their mouth about Civil War and how liberals are murderers who are happily celebrating the murder of a conservative pundit, are enormous hypocrites. We should never not point out blatant hypocrisy such as that.
