This is good news. I hope the catch the fucker alive.11:52 am subject arrived on campus
went through the building up the stairways to the roof
after the shooting went to another part of the building, jumped off the roof, walked off campus into a neighborhood.
they have good video footage of the shooter via doorbell and security cams. they are not releasing the image now
they are confident in their abilities to identify and track the shooter
I'm not debating that larger point. I sure as heck couldn't hit anything from 400 feet. Again, I don't think anyone's point is to suggest that making this shot was "easy" or didn't require firearms training. Simply that it did not require some sort of professional organization to pull off.I've read 2 football fields in multiple articles. Either way, I would be willing to bet money that most of the people talking about this couldn't hit a target from 400 ft. Especially with the additional variables in this situation.
We’re kinda repeating the conversation, but my take is that with a modern weapon, including a high-quality scope, that at ~200 yards it’s not a shot that a novice would likely make but also not one that requires specialized training, either. In the kind of environment where Kirk was shot - fairly open area with no major barriers between the shooter and the target, an elevated position from which to shoot, a target that is sitting in one spot and not making major movements - it’s a shot that someone with relatively normal but thorough experience (like hunting) would have a reasonable chance to make.Ok.
On this point I disagree with what I'm reading. How many here think they could hit a human target from 700+ ft in a controlled environment such as a range?
The imagine the other variables associated.
Maybe it helps to figure out who might have done it, I'm not sure, but it is interesting how many think this was an easy shot all variables considered.
I think bolt action rifle vs an AR-15 helped in that capacity. The Trump attempt had several other people hit and the one man killed because it was more of a spray and pray situation. This was a weapon for this job it seems.I have thought (but did not want to say out loud immediately after the seeing the shooting videos) that we are weirdly fortunate that this was a very targeted attack and not a mass shooting. There were a lot of people in a small area and obviously the shooter had a good line of site if he wanted to carry out a mass shooting event instead.
Which is not meant to diminish the assassination of Kirk standing on its own as a vile act. Just in the era of mass shootings this could have been even worse and as sad as I am for Kirk’s family (and for the negative impact on the social fabric of this nation), I’m glad it wasn’t a Vegas type of mass shooting.
I agree, but I've also read "Novice" multiple times.I'm not debating that larger point. I sure as heck couldn't hit anything from 400 feet. Again, I don't think anyone's point is to suggest that making this shot was "easy" or didn't require firearms training. Simply that it did not require some sort of professional organization to pull off.
Yeah, the rifle also suggests the intent of a specific target and not a mass murder event.I think bolt action rifle vs an AR-15 helped in that capacity. The Trump attempt had several other people hit and the one man killed because it was more of a spray and pray situation. This was a weapon for this job it seems.
Considering anyone can walk into virtually any building on any public university or college campus during regular business hours, no, it’s highly unlikely he had or needed any help accessing the rooftop.
Agreed. Used to sit on top of Old East at night.I got on all sorts of rooftops and tunnels I wasn’t supposed to be in at UNC very easily.
Distances to various points on the roof. (not counting height - I don't have that info and I really don't feel like googling that right now and be seen as a copycat)I've read 2 football fields several times. Either way, I would be willing to bet money that most of the people talking about this couldn't hit a target from 400 ft. Especially with the additional variables in this situation.
Or someone who knew the area, put together a decent plan, and got a bit lucky. Not necessarily a super operative, just someone who generally knows what they’re doing. Being current or former military/law enforcement/hunter, doesn’t mean it’s Chris Kyle or Bryan Mills (Liam Neeson from Taken). It just means it’s somebody more put together than the whack jobs that normally do these things.
It’s possible. He also just may have been someone with access such as a student or university employee. Could also just be really lax security with a very public event going on. When I was at UNC I attended a similar event with Anne Coulter, and nothing would have prevented this from happening there had someone been motivated to do so.Do you think he had assistance from someone at the University? I assume he would need access to the building to access the roof.
There were 6 police present and Kirk's private security. I doubt kirk or the local police or any of these people have the resources to secure all the buildings they would need to. Looking on Google maps there are at least 6 rooftops that would have to be patrolled to prevent this. You can either spend a small fortune every time some speaking event like this takes place, or you move inside, or you take the risk that comes with the things you say.Or someone who knew the area, put together a decent plan, and got a bit lucky.
I think we often underestimate the amount of panic and chaos that happen in these kinds of events and overstate the skill of law enforcement to react immediately after such an event to identify & capture the shooter, particularly if local LEOs are the highest level law enforcement folks on the scene.
When we look at the 2 men who tried to assassinate Trump last year, neither were particularly skilled or even stable folks and both got fairly close to pulling it off, especially Thomas Crooks, despite the fact the Secret Service was involved in setting up & carrying out security in both cases. When threats can come from a thousand places and with modern weapons, folks wanting to carry out such shootings always have a decent chance of success.
I specifically was listing things that i felt fall outside of the core liberal vs conservative reasons because maga is labeling this as the "radical left".Huh? What does the platform have to do with responsibility? It absolutely is irresponsible to discuss motive when we have no idea even who a suspect is in this murder. It's irresponsible to discuss motive whether you are a major politician, media figure, or an idiot sitting on your sofa posting on your phone. There is no difference. We know nothing about the perpetrator. Assigning motive in that situation is ridiculous. "Anonymously" posting online does not leave you without responsibility.
Shouldn’t the fact that he feels the need to wear vests in public tell him that his standpoint on guns is wrong?I have seen it said he was wearing a vest..Since when has a vest been able to stop a high powered rifle…That bullet is going thru that vest unless he had a steel plate…
I doubt these campus cops are the investigative Olympic team.Pretty wild to me that they still don’t have the shooter in custody.
Wasn't Luigi's problem due to grievances about insurance business? Doesn't seem left v right.
