I know yall hate Duke and that's cool. But what may go down, now between Duke and Miami (and I hope it does - I hope the lawsuit is fast and furious) could be landscape-altering for college football. And honestly, in a way that is desperately needed.

Miami just came in, paid $10mil, bought family a home or something, gave his sister a NIL deal, and are apparently acting like his current contract didn't have teeth (which apparently it does)? So Duke lawyers are already all over it. I hope it gets gross and ugly. Not because of us (Duke) but because college sports fucking SUCK and hell needs to hit hard
I mean you guys have been buying players outside the rules for quite a while, so excuse me if I don't exactly feel sorry for you when others do similar things.

So does Chambliss deserve a 6th year (4th season of football)?
I know “Long CoVid” is a thing… did Chambliss have LCovid?
Also, NCAA says he “failed to provide adequate medical records” and Miss St. says they provided 91 pages of records….

Something’s gotta give:

Also, sorry dookies, but your QB changes mind and enters transfer portal. Does this mean the lawsuit with Miami goes away? Why would it?
Why wouldn’t it?
Mensah has already proven he doesn’t want to stay in Derm… (who would?)

Heels just lost an OL-Thompkins-that had committed but not signed in the portal
A big loss
LSU I think

I agree with you. I find myself ready for college sports to have a come to Jesus experience. The NFL and NBA now have more continuity than college and feel less mercenary. The Washington qb situation raised as a harbinger. He was going to spurn his contract for LSU.

I have no problem with today’s college players getting as much cash as they can from the “system.”

Coaches and AD’s and numerous people affiliated with college teams and athletic departments have been cashing in for decades. The “adults” have been able to jump from team to team for years……with boosters paying the jumping fee.

Now that SOME players can take advantage of the “system,” supposed fans find it objectionable that players are cashing in and not “loyal” to the team.

FEW adults were loyal to the school. They were loyal to the paycheck - and few players were getting paid.

The “adults” fucked up college revenue sports (and the super elite levels of non-revenue sports) by ignoring the reality that the players deserved to be paid.

Remember when an Indiana basketball player was punished for appearing in a calendar? He wasn’t making a dime.

The “adults” tried to use things like the “national letter of intent” and the “sit out a year” transfer rule and a “two-year” sit-out rule for transfers within a conference to tie players to a given school.

Meanwhile, the coaches and athletic department staffs could freely move to greener pastures. After all, the coaches and athletic department staff could also be fired. But, so could players. A “national letter of intent wasn’t a 4-5 year contract. Most (all?) schools had a “waiver wire” for underperforming players.

We UNC fans were blessed with Coaches such as Smith, Guthridge, and Williams. They truly believed that signing a national letter of intent meant a player earned the privilege of earning a degree……so, signing an NLI was at least a 4-5 year deal and commitment between the players and the coaches. Who was that mediocre PF/C from Norfolk in the early-mid ‘’90’s? Ed Geth?

No one should be surprised at college players jumping from one $$$ deal to another. Coaches and AD’s have been doing so for decades. Lane Kiffen jumped from a national title contender (in the College Football Play-offs contender). Bill Self is paid $13 million? Belichick is paid $10 million. Shitty ass Mike Lombardi is paid $1.5 million……and, we pay another Lombardi and two more Belichicks…..

And, people think the players are fucking up the college game?

Remember when Coach K dangled leaving d00k for the Lakers to get a huge raise and a much bigger budget? The players couldn’t publicly do that in that era.

Now they can. Good for the players.

I do not see an argument against the players. That feels like a straw man. I consistently see an argument against a lack of contract integrity. I agree with that. College football and basketball are fully professional at the highest level. Sign and enforce contracts like the pros do. Hopefully the Demond Williams chicanery is a sign of the direction things are going. You sign a contract and we hold you to it. If you want to leave during that contract you need pay the hefty buyout.

Which coaches are paying or have paid a hefty buy-out when they leave for greener pastures?

They don’t.

The new “school” pays the hefty buy-out.

It’s on the “adults” who have been making bank on college sports for decades that college sports wasn’t prepared for today’s “free for all” “Wild West” “Las Vegas of the ‘60’s” era of college sports.

Then force the schools to make the choices regarding buying out contracts for coaches and or players. I care not one bit about the 18-25 year olds making a bunch of money.

If you’re looking for a last minute ticket to the National Championship game, the cheapest ticket on StubHub is $3,686.

You should. It exacerbates income wealth inequality, and putting substantial economic capital in the hands of 18 year old football players is not going to pay big returns.

I mean, it's not as bad as crypto bros getting rich because they followed line goes up investing, but athletes everywhere are now making serious bank and little good can come from that. Not that it's a concern of any individual institution -- they play to win and sitting it out doesn't really make much difference. But when the starting QB on a high school football team makes more money in college than the valedictorian will make in 20, it distorts incentives.

My son's high school used to be one of the best public high schools in the state. It had terrible football but robust Science Olympiad participation, robotics teams, some girls' sports. Tons of AP classes, a good marching band. And they are cutting that stuff back to build a new football stadium and buy new amenities for the football team. There is no way in hell this can be considered a good outcome for the nation.

tRump wants to toss the coin flip for tonight's game . . do you think he's practiced any ?
