Iz's version deserves a spot on the list.

I really like Iz's version except for one line in the second verse. Instead of singing the standard and accepted "dogs say goodnight," Iz sings "I like the night."

I Can't recommend this album enough if you're into this sort of thing. One of my all time favorites...

A Michael Nesmith song. He was much more than a cartoonish TV character.

I may be mixing up my Monkees, but IIRC, it was Michael Nesmith's idea to have Jimi Hendrix to open for The Monkees. EDIT/ I was WRONG. It was Mickey Dolenz, as CircleSky88 correctly and politely, pointed out, who got Hendrix to open for The Monkeys. /EDIT I always thought it was an interesting bit of trivia that Michael Nesmith's mother invented "Liquid Paper" in the 1950's and sold the company she formed to make in "Liquid Paper" in 1979 for $47.5M. Somewhat fortuitous timing given the technological developments that were to soon wipe out the market for "Liquid Paper."

She became a hardcore Christian Scientist. As Michel later did. His autobiography is a convoluted mess of him trying to figure life out.

It was Mickey Dolenz who got Hendrix to open for them. Mickey saw Hendrix at the Monterey Pop Festival and became a fan.

Nesmith was instrumental in the creation of MTV thanks to his extensive music video collection. Here's one of my favorite covers of his songs

The skinny tie of music is bluegrass it comes back in style every few decades. This is one of my favorite covers of a great Bruce Springsteen song.
ETA: Local Chapel Hill native Bobby Britt plays fiddle with this group. His folks started the Merritts BLT craze.

They should cover Van Halen’s On Fire instead.
