CURRENT EVENTS MAY 19 -21

Mike Brown’s family got paid. Precedent was set.
I've been trying to be nice to you recently, but you're making it hard. Mike Brown has NOTHING to do with this. NOTHING. Different situations, different cases, different jurisdictions, different laws.

And it's easy to see what's going on here: Trump is using the public treasury to compensate his SS goons.

There's a cadre of posters here who view everything through the lens of their own racial animus and grievance. Zen obviously and Ramrouser. You too? If not, what was the point of bringing up Mike Brown?

The point is that people here are (justifiably) mad at Babbit's family being compensated for Babbit being a moron and getting herself killed. There is a direct parallel to Michael Brown's family being compensated for Brown being a moron and getting himself killed, yet there was zero outrage about that on the ZZL when that happened. I'm simply asking for consistency. Wrong is wrong, no matter what side does it. People shouldn't get payouts just so politicians can score political points and appease their base.

I'm not making excuses for MAGA bullshit. Both payouts were wrong. I don't recall seeing any outrage on the ZZL when Brown's family got millions though.
you are, actually.

the mike brown situation played out in a matter of minutes. at one point during those short few minutes he physically threatened an officer and at another point during those few minutes he fled from that officer. it was a very fast moving and unintentional series of events.

ashli babbit repeatedly decided over a period of weeks, days and then hours to do awful, illegal, stupid things. she bought a fucking plane ticket and flew across the country from california to DC to engage in an insurrection. she and her co-insurrectionists assaulted LEO'S and trespassed and damaged the capitol, endangering LEO'S and lawmakers, once again over a period of several hours. she made awful, illegal choices over and over and over and over again.

the situations are not comparable. you're basically comparing manslaughter to capital, premeditated, 1st degree murder.

And in a sane world, those assisting her being charged with that murder is more legally justified than the monetary award to the family.

You've misidentified the anger.

I don't give a fuck about $5M -- it's not even a drop in the ocean compared to the federal budget. I don't care if Babbitt gets compensated after a bunch of bullshit because our tort system commonly rewards pieces of shit.

I do care about the rule of law and the corruption. In the state proceedings in MO and other places, there was an adversarial relationship between the parties; the family wanted to be paid, the state did not want to pay. Settlements arise out of that sort of situation all the time. At no point has there been a suggestion that anyone on the inside was trying to funnel Mike Brown's family cash.

Contrast to this situation, where literally Trump is on Babbitt's side. He's using the federal government as life insurance for his stormtroopers. He's already pardoned his goons. He's talked about paying them reparations. He is paying them reparations here. The point is to show his people that there will be no consequences to them for acting like Trump's private paramilitary. And that is unpardonable, to invoke a grim pun.

Now, if you want to focus exclusively on the payout and ignore the process, I mean it's your right but it speaks volumes about your priorities. It's obvious that you have loads of resentment toward Mike Brown -- you've referred to him on many occasions -- and fine, you're allowed to have that opinion. When you bring him up in this context, your agenda and your grievances become obvious. Ball is in your court to clarify.
