According to nobelprize.org...

Barack H. Obama, the 44th President of the United States, had been in power for less than eight months when he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for 2009. Among the reasons it gave, the Nobel Committee lauded Obama for his “extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples”. Emphasis was also given to his support - in word and deed - for the vision of a world free from nuclear weapons.

During his first year in power, President Obama showed himself to be a strong spokesman for human rights and democracy, and as a constructive supporter of the work being done to put effective measures in place to combat the climate crisis. This is in line with his appeal: “Now is the time for all of us to take our share of responsibility for a global response to global challenges”.

As President, he called for a new start to relations between the Muslim world and the West based on common interests and mutual understanding and respect.

He set in motion a plan for the withdrawal of U.S. occupying forces from Iraq.

So strengthen international diplomacy ?
Advocate for a world free from nuclear weapons ?
A call for a global response to global challenges ?
A call for healing relations between the Muslim world and the West ?
A plan to withdraw U. S. forces from Iraq ?

No mention that he was a black man ?

BS statement, with nothing tangible to justify their giving the Prize to a President who happened to be black.

Meanwhile, Trump’s having a Teddy Roosevelt type year and the committee is likely to snub him for the prize.

How’s ending the Russo-Ukraine War going for Trump? That “I can end it in 24-hours” war?

Or Gaza?

Starting a trade war with the world epitomizes peace.

Trump is having a Neill McGeachy-type year…….not a Rooseveltesque one.

With all due respect, insisting the Nobel Peace Prize was given to Obama because he was black is not a good look for you.

A reasonable inference to draw is that you are a bigot which I am confident you do not consider yourself to be, and I welcome an alternative argument against Obama being given the Nobel Peace Prize.

The Director of the Peace Research Institute Oslo, Henrik Urdal, published a respected shortlist of worthy contenders for 2025, based on public impact and global relevance: 1.Sudan’s Emergency Response Rooms, 2.Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani (Qatar’s Prime Minister & FM), 3.OSCE’s ODIHR, 4.The Carter Center, 5.Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom (WILPF), 6.International Court of Justice & International Criminal Court.

The Nobel Peace Prize

Berit Reiss-Andersen is a Norwegian lawyer, author and former politician. In 2022 she chaired the Norwegian Nobel Committee which awards the Nobel Peace Prize. That year she referred to the winners as "admirable individuals and groups of people who at great personal sacrifice challenge repressive authorities and stand up against aggression in pursuit of democracy, human rights and peace."
Nobel Peace Prize winners honoured at awards ceremony - Openforum

"Since World War II, the Peace Prize has principally been awarded to honour efforts in four main areas: arms control and disarmament, peace negotiation, democracy and human rights, and work aimed at creating a better organized and more peaceful world." About the Nobel Peace Prize - Nobel Peace Prize

Donald trump has exhibited none of those qualities. In fact, his entire life has been anathema to such comportment and achievement.

Why trump should not be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize: 1.Inciting violence, 2.Twice Impeached (once for inciting insurrection) -- yes I know he was not convicted, 3.Withdrew the US from global organizations dedicated to bettering human welfare, 4.Has weakened multilateral cooperation, 5.Praises authoritarians while he undermining constitutional democratic republican governments, 6.Muslim Ban, 7.Family Separation at the border, 8.A lifetime of unethical behavior on record, 9.Thirty-Four Felony Counts of falsifying business records, 10.Deployment of ICE as a paramilitary force to kidnap and deport persons without due process, 11.Sexual assault.

To be fair, two international criminals have been awarded the NPP: Henry Kissinger and Yassir Arafat (though neither were convicted felons at the time and their awards were associated directly with concrete peace agreements).

My nominee? Chef José Andrés (nominated in 2024 but he should be again).

I don’t recall Teddy R cratering the greatest economy in the world or getting the “TACO Teddy” moniker for having such a proclivity to back down like a bitch, but I may have had those Marxist WOKE indoctrination history textbooks in high school and college.

Nobody even knows or gets what TACO means except online leftists. Also who TACO’d Trump or the EU/GB. Von der Leyen and Starmer traveled to his Golf resort to kiss his ring after they caved. Don’t understand why you don’t pull for the USA.

I do pull for the USA. That’s why I hate having a president known to be a pussy who backs down time and time again from his own self-imposed trade agreement deadlines. It’s why I hate having a president known to be a protector of pedophiles at best, and a pedophile himself at worst. It’s why I hate having a president who was found civilly liable by a bipartisan jury of his peers for sexual assault. It’s why I hate having a president who deports American citizens. It’s why I hate having a president who slapped the American middle class and working class with high consumption taxes and an impossible cost of living increase. It’s why I hate having a president who called our war dead “suckers and losers.” It’s why I hate having a president who was too much of a pussy to have served his country in the military, using “bone spurs” as a pathetic excuse to ditch service.

Why do YOU hate the good ol’ US of A, ramrouser?

Also! You DO apparently know what TACO means, you raging leftist! You said so in your second sentence.

Maybe because "the USA" has never been about calling the leaders of our allies to kiss any rings.

You're the one who isn't pulling for the USA. You're pulling for something, but it ain't America.

Ram wants Trump to be treated like Michael Coreleone at the end of the Godfather. Clemenza hugs him, then calls him “Don Corleone” and kisses his hand. Then he extends his hand to Rocco and he kisses it.

He was nominated for what the world hoped he would do-that is true
He had inherited the Great Recession and a Nation gone wild with war-against anybody but the Saudis that manned all the 9/11 planes. It was as if the world was finally breathing again after another massive republican cluster duck of an administration
And whenever the US emerges from it's descent into fascist kakistocracy, I imagine our next democratically elected President will also win it.

I hope Ramrouser lives long enough to be really butthurt about it.

Trump is extremely agitated …

[Reportedly, Schumer was demanding that the Trump Admin release funding allocated by Congress in exchange for ending delays on appointments, leveraging the pressure within the Senate GOP caucus to start their August recess to try to get some concessions on impounded funds.]
