Part of me thinks Trump's crusade to alter and rename various iconic buildings and the presidential golf course is an act of self aggrandizement in the here and now. Another part of me thinks his frantic effort is a response to his awareness of his imminent mortality, and he desperately wants to be remembered fondly beyond the grave.
I agree that the main reason for all of this is to get his name on - or to be responsible for significant changes to - as many things as possible.

The naming will be easy to rectify, the next Dem president can just remove his name from everything. But making significant changes to existing and, presumably, long-term properties will be much tougher. Unless the next president were willing to spend a whole lot of money to undo these actions (the new ballroom, the proposed arch) then they may actually stick around for quite awhile.

Yes, the next Dem president could remove Trump's name from everything.

But can you imagine a Dem president actually doing that ?

I'm confident that President Ocasio-Cortez and Vice President Mamdani will take all appropriate actions following their swearing in on January 20, 2029.

He wants to stick us all with being forced to be reminded of him.
Most dictators and strongmen (or wannabes) build monuments to themselves when they're alive, mostly from ego and narcissism and as you said, a determination to force everyone to continue to think about them and see reminders of them everywhere when they're gone. I've read that North Korea's dictators had their likeness painted on the sides of tall buildings, and it's not hard at all to see Trump doing that (I believe they have placed large posters with his image on the sides of some government agency buildings in DC). It's just more evidence of his narcissism and fondness for how dictators do things in other countries.

I again do not think it should be done by POTUS.

I congress needs a day 1 piece of legislation that retroactively removes any naming of federal properties not explicitly approved by legislation and guarantees that ALL naming actions in the future must be congressionally approved with any future action to do so by any POTUS being an impeachable offense. Make it law. If enough Pubs won't go along to in the Senate, use it as reason to break the filibuster.

Make it part of the "New Order Presidential Reform And Vindication of Democracy Act"

NOPRAVDA

Strip POTUS of nearly all executive authority as we currently know it. Do it lawfully and orderly. Make it the cornerstone promise of the next Dem presidential candidate to return the office to its intended 3rd branch of government not the macabre dictatorship foisted on the American people by Republicans.

I'd still argue that if Congress hadn't given up their obligations to represent their people to do what's best for their party, we wouldn't be here. In this case, they not only gave up their power to control the executive power but became the president's lackeys.

Oh I agree but that's where I think there is opportunity to make bigger differences by forcing them to act. I envision a POTUS who marches into the House or Senate and walks to the well whether recognized or not and absolutely reads the riot act to the reps who are intransient. POTUS can and should use the bully pulpit to daily shame congress for inaction. Make the American people know who the real problem is. Name names and implore the Americans who live in those districts to vote against those who are holdouts on votes...no matter what party they belong to.
