this seems pretty naive.Yes. I would prefer that people are chosen on criteria that matter, not superficial criteria that we are born with and have no control over, like gender and skin color.
The whole point of DEI/Affirmative Action is that, by and large, we do not live in a meritocracy. We’re fed the myth that we do, but we don’t. And we’re fed the myth that everyone has an equal chance to succeed, but they don’t.
I’d prefer what you describe. But it’s not reality. Not in any sector of American culture.
Not in education.
Not in housing.
Not in health care.
Not in employment.
