Of the 47 SSA field offices listed for closure on the Department of Government Efficiency website, 26 are slated for closure this year, with some taking effect as early as next month, according to an Associated Press analysis of the data.
That change, in addition to the impending closure of field offices across the country, and a plan to reduce the agency workforce with mass layoffs, could result in massive delays to services, advocates say.
…
The end of phone service identification could be dramatic for some recipients, including families with children who will be required to visit an SSA office, since children can't open online accounts through the "my Social Security" online service.
Nancy Altman, president of Social Security Works, said "this will make it far harder for the American people to claim their earned benefits. It could even cause major delays, and ultimately collapse the system, by overwhelming the field offices." …”
Evil Deep Stae folks that help people on Soc SecDoesn’t sound very efficient.
Let them eat freedom.

Oh yeah that definitely goes on, but in this case she is directly quoting a Bloomberg article that directly quotes the acting director:I get the game is to scare people for views but this one has gone off the deep end. I have this theory that there is a cabal of twitter/bluesky creators that are making bets on what is the most absurd thing we can get people riled up about. DOGE stopping social security payments and shutting down the agency is running neck and neck with the guy saying there is an alien invasion fleet just picked up on our sensors.
Well done. You got me.Oh yeah that definitely goes on, but in this case she is directly quoting a Bloomberg article that directly quotes the acting director:
"Acting Social Security Commissioner Leland Dudek said the temporary restraining order issued Thursday is so broad in blocking access to data by “DOGE affiliates” that it could apply to any Social Security employee.
“My anti-fraud team would be DOGE affiliates. My IT staff would be DOGE affiliates,” Dudek said. “As it stands, I will follow it exactly and terminate access by all SSA employees to our IT systems.”
He said he would ask the judge to immediately clarify her order. “Really, I want to turn it off and let the courts figure out how they want to run a federal agency,” he said."
So maybe the aliens have landed.
No gotting here. Just putting the info out there. Especially because reading the article on Bloomberg requires codes and popups and all kinds of crap.Well done. You got me.
Yeah. I actually misread it. I thought it was Doge threatening the social security administration and the director saying that she might have to shut off payments. It's actually the courts doing that and the director saying if we have to follow this ruling, people aren't going to get their checks and the court system will need to figure it out. Malicious compliance by Trump allies. No gotting here. Just putting the info out there. Especially because reading the article on Bloomberg requires codes and popups and all kinds of crap.
I hope you are correct. I am getting my first Social Security payment in April and my timing is always impeccable. It's not something I need, but still, there are a lot of people that depend on it.Yeah. I actually misread it. I thought it was Doge threatening the social security administration and the director saying that she might have to shut off payments. It's actually the courts doing that and the director saying if we have to follow this ruling, people aren't going to get their checks and the court system will need to figure it out.
I'm sure this kind of thing happens all the time as a judge, who's a really smart person, makes a ruling on something they have no background in and has to go back and adjust it. Seems like that sort of thing happens to tech billionaires and unpaid 20-something coders as well. Its likely just hitting the news now because of what's going on. I think it'll all work out and not one check will be missed but we'll have to see.
