Probably to some degree. I still am and he's older than me. I don't know about where he grew up but I grew up in ENC in the 50s with full blown segregation. You know, the water fountains, theaters, restaurants and everything. My family wasn't racist at all by the standards of the time but the N-word and all the bad stories were around everywhere. I still catch myself thinking some stupid things that stem from that background. I have the good grace to be ashamed and try to do better. I'd think most of my generation, especially from the South, would have some of that, no matter how good their intentions.

It'd be a very, very small book. A lot of people opposed busing in the '70s. He was in the wrong then, but Biden evolved. Trump on the other hand has devolved and become even more racist than he was in the '70s.

robert byrd notably called his short-lived participation in the KKK as a 20 something young man in the 1940's "the greatest mistake of my life."

biden has also owned up to past mistakes and poor wording and incorrect statements regarding race.

meanwhile, current GOP politicians and candidates are regularly endorsed by and consort with the KKK and other hate groups.

I've always believed that we are all a little racist. I also believe that we generally view "racism" on a sliding scale, and that that scale is largely dependent on being "not me" to some regard. We all have also said racist things, jokingly, or not, deliberately, or not. And we all have shown, through our actions, that we see someone else as less than us for whatever reason.

Ultimately, the solution is to hold ourselves, and those most like us, to a higher standard - although that, too, is a type of "othering."

It comes down to empathy.

And my issue with Trump, and MAGA in general, is that he views empathy as a weakness of human character - when, in fact, empathy is one of the things that makes us human and keeps civilization from falling apart.

In the age of the internet, sadly, empathy is in short supply. That's why we need leaders who inspire us to empathize, not ones who encourage our basest of instincts. Trump ain't that type of leader.

Agreed. Honestly, if I were on the jury, I'm not sure whether or not I'd acquit, but this wasn't an open and shut case either way. But to reward killing? It don't sit right with me.

Are you referencing the bill that passed preventing transgender youth from participating in sports that doesn't align with their biological gender? I'm fine with that. Do we want biological males dominating girls' sports. Most Americans agree with me on this.

There was another bill that hasn't yet passed that would ban puberty blocking medication for transgender MINORS. All of Europe now agrees with this so we're the outlier on this issue.

I'm not aware of any serious attempt by the Georgia legislature to undo same sex marriages and (as you know) they wouldn't have the authority to do so under the Obergefell decision. That's a classic red herring.

Obviously, a current SCOTUS court decision doesn't stop states from passing laws in hopes that they go to the SCOTUS and the decision is overturned, see Roe.

There is talk about trying to roll back gay marriage in Georgia.

And, as stated before the decision in the UK, first of all, means nothing in the US. You do realize that the UK allowed Thalidomide considerably before the US FDA approved it. Should we have followed that lead? I mean the UK did have considerably more birth defects than the US. So, following the UK isn't really a starting point or a win in any argument. Other countries governments react and do things out of fear just as ours does, we should always be leaders in the world not followers.

And, it's not the government's business how a parent, child, and doctor treat a patient. Do you want the government deciding your medical care? Maybe they block the sale of Viagra, since it's going against the natural function of the body. If God wanted old me to have sex, he would allow their natural body to function. If the hydraulics are not working, it must be a sign that one should no longer have sex.

And there are other proposals in Ga that the republicans want passed. It's quite a topic on the LBGTQ parents' groups that I am a part of. I'll have to check again to see how far along they are. But trust me Kemp is no different than the heritage foundation and the others supporting the restrictions in project 2025. He's just smart enough not to draw too much attention to himself or the agenda.

Yes, Biden, like many others, made very poor/racist choices 50 years ago. Learning, evolving, and growing so that he didn't continue to make those mistakes is admirable.

People who in 2024 are still clearly racist and have not grown or evolved are not a comparison.

I didn't vote for 1970's Biden, I voted for 2020 Biden. Not that I am under some illusion that he was perfect, he was not, he was simply a better candidate than trump.
