During the Supreme Court litigation, the Justice Department had given repeated assurances that if the tariffs were struck down, the money would be returned. That's why the government was allowed to keep collecting the tariffs for months after a lower court ruled them to be illegal last May.

"They said, 'There is no harm, because we can always refund the money.' And they even included 'with interest,'" says Sara Albrecht, who heads the Liberty Justice Center that took the tariff case to the Supreme Court. "To me it's pretty clear that they don't have a lot of room to argue that they can't pay refunds."

Private Credit is sounding like mortgage securities in 2007-2009.

You’d know a ton more about this than I do.

From what I understand, banks have been loaning to/investing in Private Credit.

Will this be another occasion of “too big to fail?”

My uniformed opinion is that looking long term companies think AI will significantly reduce labor costs... no wages, no sick/vacation leave, no retirement plan, no absenteeism/disruptive employee departures

I agree, but if so I would argue that in a sense that kind of "long term" thinking is actually self-destructive, as laying off all those workers is going to cause a national social and economic crisis like we haven't seen since at least the Great Depression, and that's likely going to affect those companies to a far greater degree than they could possibly imagine. Hard to increase your profits when most of your customer base around the world has lost their jobs due to AI and can't afford to buy your products anymore.
