When you believe that one side always tells the truth, you're going to believe that anything they say is going to be the truth.

He’s a businessman and pragmatist who supports the US Constitution.

Nah, most of my circle are pro-business moderates on either side of the aisle. I hang with some folks who voted for Trump in 2016, but didn’t vote for him again. Anyone I know who voted for Trump since 2016, our relationship has likely gradually drifted apart. I myself regularly voted for quite a few Republicans pre-Trump but since 2016, I will only vote for Republicans who denounce Trump (turns out there ain’t many of them.)

I know Fox News watchers, and some MSNBC watchers and the Fox folks tend to watch more TV news and put a lot more stock in it than the MSNBC types do. I don’t know anybody who watches TYT or OAN. I just don’t hang with many extremists. Mostly consumers of mainstream news because my friends tend to be pretty centrist, mainstream Americans. Then again, if you’re hanging with folks who think Fox is insufficiently conservative you might think my moderate friends are “very radical left people.” But that likely says more about you and your friends than about me and mine. Look at how many right wing news outlets to the right of Fox exist and compare that to the dearth of liberal counterparts on cable channel lineup. The fact that you consider mainstream legacy media outlets to be “liberal” is hilarious, and tells us plenty about your perspective. Do those networks and publications employ some liberals? Certainly, but look at who owns those networks and the veil of liberalism falls apart.

Great post. The "Fox News Orphan" phenomenon is real. I have retired relatives who do little but watch Fox News or Fox Business all day during the week, and I knew plenty of other relatives who have passed on who did the same. And they believe what Fox tells them and it most certainly has an enormous influence on how they see the world. They were conservative before Fox of course, but Fox has been brilliant at playing to these people's pre-existing prejudices and worldview and telling them only what they want to hear and believe, and to keep them constantly angry and upset at liberals and fearful of every group and person conservatives don't like. I do think it's a kind of addiction for many Trumpers, especially older and retired ones.

Most of my friends and colleagues whom I discuss politics with are Republicans who generally support Trump but either have serious issues with him or find him humorous or don't take him that seriously. These are Peter Millar Republicans. These folks would never vote for a Democrat. Through mutual friends, I do know a network of very conservative attorneys and paralegals (I'm on an email list) who are very MAGA and, for example, think Fox news is squishy. Those were the people I was referring to.

I don't discuss politics with most people and simply keep my beliefs to myself.

My wife listens to NPR (although not as much lately) so I'm familiar with it. You seriously think NPR is neutral and doesn't skew left? Its employees are like 98% Dem.

The amount of "fact" provided by news outlets is very minimal. The rest is the person's interpretation of events, or hearsay, presented as fact.

I agree most NPR reporters and staff lean left. NPR is also fastidious about factchecking. So the selection of stories may be different than those on Fox, but it’s extremely accurate and fair information.

I got annoyed by NPR the first Trump term because they’d always have a Trump surrogate on and seemingly be afraid to push back on anything that was said. Always assumed that was out of fear of being perceived as biased.
