Gavin Newsom addresses the nation

And it makes you feel morally superior to whine about Newsom—even when he’s doing exactly what he should be doing—because you don’t like that he’s gone off the reservation about Trans rights and is obviously a self-promoting slimeball.

Typical left-wing circular firing squad stuff.
That’s not my view at all. In fact, I may be closer to his new view than his old view on trans athletes.

What I don’t like is his fakeness. And the speech tonight was Newsom at his fakiest.

And he shouldn’t be giving nationwide addresses in primetime. That is not his role at all. Even Trump hasn’t done that yet.

Give me JB Pritzker any day. Or Josh Shapiro. Or Gretchen Whitmer. Or Josh Stein. Or Andy Beshear. Or AOC. Or Jasmine Crocket.

Or basically someone who is at least within the same area code of real human emotions.
So those 10’s of millions of Californians don’t feel real human emotions?

There are a lot of opportunists and grifters out there on the anti-Trump bandwagon. Just like there are on the pro-Trump bandwagon.

If the opportunity presented itself, I could totally see Newsom changing parties one day - just like his ex, Kimberly.
So, you dislike him emotionally?

You can’t name specifics.

That’s fine. I expected more. But, I’m not surprised.

Do you support his efforts to challenge Trump’s use of the NG and Marines in the courts, or is that just another fake thing you hate about him?

How could you possibly know what he is like as a person? He appears to have no core beliefs whatsoever - other than what he thinks will get him elected.
I don't know, but he seems smart, sharp and level headed. At this point, that sounds great.

I’ve named specifics.

1. He is fake
2. He was a poor leader during Covid IMO, and he lost me completely when he went to the party at French Laundry in Napa after telling everyone else to stay home.
3. He has been platforming the alt right on his podcast to show he is the new Bill Maher or some such shit.
4. He has changed positions recently in a fake attempt to appear more moderate, including on trans athletes.
5. He is an opportunist. He cares about his political future more than anything else.

Well, that is the AG’s case. Not his case. But you wouldn’t know that because Gavin makes it sound like it is his doing. Because it is all about Gavin.

And of course I support it.

Explain why you think he was a poor leader during covid.

So, it’s just his eating at The French Laundry that makes you think he didn’t do a good job helping us get through covid. Pretty ridiculous take, imo.
He was literally telling families not to gather for Thanksgiving 2020. To only eat with members of your household.

I thought at the time he was going a bit overboard. But if that is his position, then he needs to walk the walk. A good leader leads by example.

Like I said, that one misstep by him (mind you, they were well within policy guidelines) means that he did not do a good job helping us get through covid is a ridiculous take.

They were not well within policy guidelines. The policy of the State of California in November 2020 was not to dine with anyone outside your immediately family members in order to combat the new COVID surge. Newsom made a lot of public pronouncements about that very issue and told people not to gather with extended family members for Thanksgiving. Meanwhile, he is dining with lobbyists.

Which other democrats, besides Newsom and (presumably) Pelosi, do you think was/is not a good leader? Any outside of CA?

Pelosi was a great leader. Probably the best speaker we have ever had.

The list of weak Democrats is a long one - as is the list of weak Republicans.

I’ll go with Chuck Schumer for a weak Democrat outside of California.

Napa County, like the state overall, says that gatherings of more than three households are prohibited. However, that guideline may only apply to gatherings in private residences. Restaurants operate in a gray area and do not explicitly have a ban on more than three households, according to the last guidance California released in July.

So you give her a pass but not Newsom, even though she did violate the guidelines, while he didn’t? Sure seems like you have some kind of personal issue with him.

So you are really going with that defense of Newsom? It’s not OK to eat Thanksgiving with MiMaw, but it is OK to eat with a lobbyist at a private event at an expensive restaurant in Napa (technically Yountville).

Yeah, that’s going to play well in the purple states.
