Venezuela was about drug cartels, oil, and keeping russia and china away. Whether you agree or not, I do think trump was sincere in addressing drug cartels. Just lucky that one of the main ones also sat on a pool of oil. Greenland is purely about resources. But I see that as vital to national security where some of you don't.

You lost me at drug cartels. It was about oil. Only oil. If it was about drug cartels, Trump wouldn't have pardoned a guy that was in jail for the same exact thing he's accusing Maduro of doing.

Trump isn't sincere about anything but whatever makes him feel like a king and makes him money. You're an idiot if you don't see he is a sociopath who cares nothing about anyone or anything but himself.

Politics Thread 'Rare Earth elements'

There are a lot of misconceptions about the rare earth elements we supposedly need so badly. Let's go through the science:

1. Rare earth elements are not actually rare. There's plenty of them, and what's more, they are everywhere. I mean, not every acre of rock, but there are plenty of rare earth deposits all over the globe. Greenland's rare earth elements are small compared to the global supply.

2. The problem with rare earths is separating them from other elements in the rock. That's a refining issue, not a mining issue. And no matter where the stuff is located, the refining...

Mining could be a problem if you have to go trough a moving glacier to to get at it

All of the rationalizations we're hearing from MAGAs are simply horrible. It's basically "we're the bully on the block, the biggest and baddest in the world, and we should just take what we want and other nations be damned. If those 60,000 people living in Greenland don't want us there then tough shit, we want it and so it should be ours!" It really does sound like something a pirate or Nazi would say.
 
To fairly sum up Callatoroy’s stance, he doesn’t want to invade Greenland militarily and take it by force.
He merely wants the US to take control of Greenland’s natural resources.

I don’t think he has explained how we could “take control” of their natural resources peacefully, or why we couldn’t just acquire them through trade.
