I'm sure Putin is strongly encouraging Trump to go after Greenland to create a crisis within NATO that Russia can exploit. Putin wants to be back in the USSR and rebuild his Iron Curtain but NATO complicates those ambitions. Trump fucking up NATO is a gift to Putin.
Upvote for the Beatles reference...

Trump is narcissist who is absolutely drunk on power. As bad as he was before, his tone has changed considerably after capturing Maduro.

If we invaded Greenland, at minimum Europe would impose devastating sanctions on the US which would ultimately force Trump to relent or be removed from office.

If we invade Greenland and Republicans don't remove Trump then we deserve our fate.
I have seen no reason to believe Congress will push back on jingoism and no reason to believe Trump and the Oligarchs care about the economy. Russia’s economy is bad outside of war mobilization but they keep it that way because it keeps the most powerful and rich people that much more powerful and rich.

Greenland and Cuba are next and Mexico after that because they pose "national security" risks...

I'm not sure we will deem Canada a national security risk...but who knows ?
Just depends on how Trump is feeling that day and little else

We finally have a King, but unfortunately an incompetent King, who could not pass his HS English final exam

Cold day in hell NATO would fire against the US. I think moment the US military forcibly asserts power on Greenland is the moment the world acknowledges NATO is dead instead of its current dead man walking state.
This is the type of thinking responsible for almost all major wars. Surely Russia isn't going to come to Serbia's defense, not against the combined power of Germany and Austria. Surely the UK doesn't care enough about Poland to fight the Nazis. Will America really care that much about the destruction of its Pacific fleet, enough to start a massive war? We'll take Kiev in three weeks.

Personally, without knowing how any Europeans feel about this specific issue (in part because the Europeans probably do not know themselves, at least ordinary Europeans), I would think they would be even more sensitive to the dangers of appeasement than we are. And of course, letting the US take Greenland in the hopes that it will be enough would be a replay of Munich.

At the very least, the World Cup is in danger. If I had World Cup tickets I'd be selling them; there's a lot of risk in holding them. I would also expect the US to get banned from major international sporting events in the same way as Russia. I do not think that there will be any global appetite for letting Americans compete under the rubric of "unaffiliated" or whatever compromise has been reached for Russians.

And If Trump were to lay waste to NATO and become an enemy of Europe, the betrayal could easily preclude rational thinking.

By what right does Denmark assert control over Denmark? Why shouldn't the US take all of Europe, if we are the power of NATO.

As I've said several times today, I am utterly livid because we are closer to nuclear war than at any point in my lifetime, and it's because Trump is fucking with our allies. Europe is not going to stand by as Orange Hitler tries to gobble up lebensraum. So I don't know how this ends but the potential for disaster is incredibly high.

All bullies operate through a lens of might makes right. Trump will take whatever is not resisted, then he will whine like the little bitch that he is when resistance is put forth. EU countries should absolutely be putting whatever troops into Greenland that the people who live there will allow.
