Of course it's a disgrace and flat-out racist, and of course they simply don't care. And if some immigrants end up getting hurt or even killed with this paranoia they're whipping up, who cares? They certainly won't.

The “excite the base” strategy has been clear since Trump selected Vance as his VP.

But you’re correct this is a major point of it.

True, but I doubt that Vance is exciting anybody, including the base. Drumming up hysteria over an immigrant "invasion" just might.

It's basically the whole GOP strategy now. Look at the down ballot races. The commercials are all immigrants, soft on crime, etc. with a few the 'economy sucks' thrown in as well.

I think Vance plays pretty well with Trump’s bare. He’s not Trump, but who is, but he certainly can sell Trump’s message.

I've seen some polls where Vance is relatively unpopular even among some Republicans - still a minority sentiment, but fairly high. At any rate I agree that the great majority of Trump's base find him acceptable, as they would almost any Trump running mate. But I don't think he fires up Trump's base to get out and vote.

I thought from the beginning that Elon getting control of one of the largest social media sites was bad news, but I'll freely admit that I had no idea of just how bad it would be. He's a full-bore Trumper and racist and he's giving Twitter over to Trump and fringe right-wing causes full force.
