I just love how someone who gives zero toward something thinks they should lecture other folks on what to do about it. I mean...goodness gracious. Those folks clearly love UNC and have done so for a LONG time to survive continually giving to UNC football in particular. It sure isn't about wins or they would have been long gone.

Do you purchase season tickets? Did you attend last night?

We can't judge a donor for coming late then leaving early in contrast with fans at other programs (or here)?

People have the right to define their fanhood, how they want to attend or spend, sit or stand, etc, I have the right to compare them to other fanbases.
 
I just realized we're playing TCU next yr. Lombo is busy tampering to steal their QB, right?

I think Belichick likely can redouble his efforts and put in extra work to be successful, whether that's additional work or working more on specific issues.

I agree that with the limitations on practice time in CFB and the limitations of many of these players, that such work may only bear relatively minimal fruit for the rest of this year. But I think the important thing for the long term is that he puts in the work in light of less-than-desired results from last night despite the immediate payoff.

Well, if this is the kind of attention they wanted they're pretty stupid, because it definitely isn't helping UNC sports or the school's image in any way. In some ways UNC football right now bears a stronger resemblance to a vapid, crass reality show instead of an actual college football program.

Which, given that so many of our BOT members are MAGAs, in some ways does make perfect sense, as Trump 2.0 is filled with reality show types.

I’m curious as to which P4 programs or NFL teams would hire our head coach or any of his assistants or his “vaunted” general manager?

Freddie Kitchens as OC? No one.

Michael Lombardi? Just how much did he have to do with building Tom Brady’s Patriot dynasty?

The rest of this staff?

I see a Mack Brown staff.

Yeah. We’ve got two NFL offseasons worth of evidence that not one single NFL franchise was willing to hire the 6-time Super Bowl winning head coach. Feels to me like that should have been a big red flag in the interview process. We also know that nobody in pro football cared to employ Mike Lombardi in any capacity since 2016.

The rest of the coaching staff is comprised of either people related by blood to the head coach, people related by blood to the general manager, people who worked for the head coach previously in the NFL, and/or people who had never worked a single second in collegiate football.

None of that means that this head coach and this coaching staff can’t or won’t be successful with the collegiate level. But it does mean that they are starting significantly far behind the eight ball, and with such a short runway of time that the head coach is likely to be coaching, there is precious little time to waste, fairly or unfairly.

It did. To me, it’s not that we lost and it’s not even that we lost by a massive margin, that is so damning. It’s that we were told that the whole reason for bringing in this particular head coach and essentially mortgaging the entire university athletics department to do so, was because we would finally be a team that plays hard for 60 minutes, doesn’t beat itself, executes game management almost perfectly, and is extremely well coached on the details and fundamentals. We saw quite literally none of the above on Monday night. The product on the field looked every bit like the worst of the Larry Fedora or Mack Brown 2.0 eras. We saw arm tackling, we saw terrible pursuit angles, we saw defensive backs getting torched, we saw defensive backs giving the old Gene Chizik special 12 yard cushion, we saw zero pressure on the opposing quarterback, we saw players give up on plays.

Obviously, it’s only one game, it’s a long season, and the coaching staff should be given leeway to fix things, make adjustments, and truly install their desired culture. But the early returns look very questionable, and so I think that all of this criticism is warranted. It does not mean that those of us who are criticizing don’t want to see this whole thing succeed and succeed spectacularly, and it does not mean that we are cheering for it to fail. It just means that we are a lot more willing to call balls and strikes.

Unfortunately, I look at UNC Hoops and think the exact same thing.

If you follow CFB or CBB at the national level it’s tough to hear people talk about UNC. Almost everyone has been laughing at the Belichick hire since it happened and basically saying that it’s just us continuing to be an unserious program, etc.

Not referring to State fans/ABCers that would say that regardless of who we hired or the main ESPN talking heads who are always going to prop up a big story. It’s mainly coming from people who actually cover the ins and outs of the sport and know what they’re talking about. It’s only 1 game into the whole thing but still hard to disagree with their assessment at this point.

E: and yes, the basketball program has been getting panned in a similar fashion, but that’s another can of worms,
