nycfan mentioned this in another thread but with Halloween not all that far away what are some good horror movies? I'm looking forward to seeing Longlegs, I've like the director's(Oz Perkins) other movies and this has gotten good reviews.
And if you like horror movies the streaming service Shudder is amazing. I joined when they had a promotion, one year for $31. A ton of classics plus a lot of their own movies. Sure, some are crap but their batting average ain't bad. I just watched Late Night with the Devil which was excellent.

I don’t see nearly as many as I used to because my husband has become very sensitive to violence, so I have to be selective/watch alone.

X is my favorite fairly recent horror flick.i really want to see Late Night with the Devil, but haven’t found the opportunity yet …

Oh yeah, I really liked No One Will Save You. That’s one I got my husband to watch due to sci fi angle and we both liked it. It would make a great double-feature with Vast of Night.

The Night House was suitably creepy but I thought not as good as its reviews had me expecting (high bar issue, worth watching but with reasonable expectations for a high end maybe supernatural ghost story/thriller).

My want to see list:

Late Night with the Devil
The Menu
Maxxine
Pearl
Barbarian
The First Omen
Black Phone(?)
Malignant
The Lighthouse

I read a lot of horror though and there has been a real resurgence of the horror novel genre IMO.

Looking forward to Maxxxine because I enjoyed the first two in the series.
Barbarian is amazing and it is best to go in blind, don't read too much about it beforehand.
Black Phone was okay(filmed in Wilmington!).
Didn't like The Lighthouse but I'm not an Eggers fan I guess because I didn't really like The Witch either.

Spooky season is here. Watched the infamous BBC tv movie Ghost Watch. Not bad as an early found footage movie(a genre I love). Spotting a glimpse of the ghost Pipes was a fun exercise.

Watched In a Violent Nature. Extremely gory slasher told from the point of view of the killer. Not totally successful but worth watching if you can take creative kills and a lot of blood.

My favorite is Psycho. This movie proves you can scare the shit out of people without a lot of blood and gore.

Well this is embarassing. Of all the movies listed on this thread so far, the only two I have heard of are "Halloween" and "Psycho." And "Psycho" is the only one I have actually seen. I guess my favorite horror movie is Stanley Kubrick's "The Shining." And somewhat oddly, "The Shining" is also my favorite Stephen King horror novel. I liked both, a lot.

The Shining is the finest work of art of horror cinema to me, but it's more disturbing than scary to me. The complexity of its meanings is certainly scary in a different way.

Of the great horror films that have genuinely scared me (and both horror and comedy films are really personal to each individual), it's the films about insanity, and losing control of one's own mind that really get to me. Near the top of that kind of list is Session 9.

I also love and am really scared by the film Pontypool. It is in fact the only, one and only, "zombie-type" film (zombie adjacent, sort of kind of zombie?) that has ever appealed, or been frightening to me.

Related, to a degree, The Babadook is a third masterpiece of the general idea of "a mind is a terrible thing to lose." All three of these films give me a slight chill to even remember.

I am not really scared by exorcisms, demons, ghosts and overly bloody stuff. Some of that is even accidentally comical at times for me.

I’m thinking a no for me.

Anyone seen Long Legs? It sounds intriguing except Nic fucking Cage, who has been making nonstop (mostly) trash for some time.

Why would anyone 1) follow politics closely and 2) still be jonesing for horror movies? Y'all just gluttons for punishment?

Edit to add: UNC football too! That's a pretty good horror film, to be honest. Really long, though.
