Anyone seen Long Legs? It sounds intriguing except Nic fucking Cage, who has been making nonstop (mostly) trash for some time.
I'm going to watch this one soon. Hopefully tomorrow night--going to Violent Femmes concert tonight :-) The trailer looks creepy as heck and some podcasters that I like seem to have enjoyed it.

I count this as more Sci-Fi than horror but I did want to mention Alien Romulus. I saw this last week and enjoyed it. The storyline and some of the acting can be nitpicked in several ways but I really liked the production design and specifically the fact that it appeared to be mostly practical (non CGI) effects. Even though this movie was made 40+ years after the original Alien, the set designers did a good job at making a move that *looked* like it fit in the chronology.

The first horror movie I ever saw was "I was a Teenage Werewolf" starring Michael Landon. I was 11 years old. I had nightmares for a few weeks after watching it.

The next horror movie I saw was "The Exorcist" . I was 22 years old and I still have a ptsd reaction every time I hearTubular Bells.

I have avoided horror films since 1973, but I bet there has not been a more psychologically chilling horror film since "The Exorcist"

The director, Roger Eggers, is doing the Nosferatu remake coming out this Christmas, too. Gonna be sure to see that.
The trailer is fantastic. I’m not a horror guy really at all, but I thought The Lighthouse was fantastic and will be seeing Nosferatu on the strength of that one.

Plus I saw the original ages ago, as well as Shadow of the Vampire.

If yuns want a good and fun film for Halloween, watch Crimson Peak. Currently "free" on Prime. It's not particularly scary. Not gory. It's really more a Gothic tale than Horror. And it pokes fun at Gothic tropes, which makes it more interesting. Set designs and shots are incredibly beautiful!

Now, if you want brutal and horrific (but not stupid gory nonsense), go with Midsommar or Hereditary. By Aster. Very clever films. Will make you feel devoid of hope. And that's the point.

Someone mentioned The Lighthouse, by Eggers. Incredible film. I wouldn't say it's "horror." More psychological thriller. But very good.

Eggers and Aster have been in a dual the past decade. I'm looking forward to Eggers' Nosferatu around Christmas. Should be good!

I am looking forward to this! I saw the preview when I went to see Speak No Evil (which was just okay, imo).

The first horror movie I ever saw was "Ben Hur." I was in the first grade. We were let out of school early so we could see a special weekday matinee for the special price of a nickle per student. And a nickle was exactly what I got from my parents, no wasting money on popcorn that cost a quarter. Remember the scene in "Ben Hur" where the galley that Ben Hur was chained to was sinking? Well that was too much for the six year old me and I fled the theater in terror. If that's not a horror movie, I don't know what is.

I don't get the appeal of gore porn, though. Like the Saw movies and those Terrorfier ones. I am more of a Halloween fan.

I don't either. I don't judge those who do, however.

But, for me, the best horror is that which shocks and reduces you without having to use gore. As I stated previously, Midsommar and Hereditary do this well, although both still use obvert violence and shocking displays. But it's not the point. It serves a true role.

A movie that scares me is Event Horizon. Creepy as hell.
I think that movie has one of the greatest atmospheric/mood setups of all time for being genuinely disturbing, and then falls short In the second act even despite the crushing ending.

The footage they find of what happened to the Event Horizon crew really bothered me when I saw it back in 1997, kind of the same way the dream sequence did in Prince of Darkness when the entire thing is finally revealed at the end.

Went opening night with my son and we thought it was a fun Alien popcorn flick. That’s what I’m looking for in these films.

I had high hopes for Mandy(Nic Cage) based on reviews on IC's horror thread, but it was terrible.

Nic Cage being involved has been a warning sign for at least a decade now … hence my hesitation about Long Legs.
