The answer was to have an actual search.
Right that’s the facile answer that leaves all the armchair second-guesser guys off the hook.

How about you guys grow a pair and tell us A) who you thought it should’ve been then, and B) who it should be now?

I think the answer was, "whoever an exhaustive coaching search conducted by professionals determined to be the best candidate."

And that's still the answer. Hubert, nice guy tho he may be, is not the answer.
Same questions to you —

A) who did you think it should’ve been then?
B) who should it be now?

I don't know the answer, it's not my expertise or decision. It was the decision of those that choose HD. Read my historical post, I trusted that group to get it right. I want against the hire. I've asked the same question of those that never accepted the decision. Who would they have chosen, because often people often say something was a bad decision without offering an alternative. That wasn't my position. My point in the post you responded to is looking back maybe they should have looked at who was available.

When I hire people on my team where I am the expert and making the decision, I ensure that I have fully vetted all of the options. I'm not promoting Bob simply because he has worked in a junior role for the last few years, unless he is the most qualified. I'm not going to know if he's the most qualified if I don't execute a thorough comprehensive search.

at the time, i was fine with Roy essentially anointing HD but the results thus far have not been acceptable. we may have been better off conducting an actual search. maybe not and whoever we hired after a search didn't get it done, either. who knows.

this is MMQB'ing to some degree especially since i already said i was fine with how it all went down but other people get paid handsomely to steward our BB program and AD as a whole and they probably didn't do their due diligence. Roy stepped down and we announced HD 4 days later. it was extremely quick.

You don’t really know what they did in terms of a coaching search. They may not have interviewed others but they certainly may have surveyed and researched the landscape. Maybe even put out some private feelers that the public wasn’t privy to.

In asking this you are missing our point. Our point isn't that we are coaching gurus and had they just asked we would have brought in the best coach and would have won the last three NC. Our point is that we don't agree with the process. And the lack of process appears to have created the state we are in.

As previously stated, I am not against HD.
I am concerned with the reports that he has basically pushed multiple players out of the program. The reports that IJ doesn't feel he can develop under HD. The portal success. What appears to be missing out on portal players last season because of a player already being penciled in as a starter. Which begs the question of the staffs ability to evaluate players. And, the slow start to this year's portal, considering we are not secure at any position.

All that being said, maybe they turn a corner. Maybe the portal is a success, maybe the key players return and are improved next season, maybe the incoming freshmen are great, and maybe we are not wondering, on selection Sunday, if we are in. Maybe we go deep in the tournament and this staff is everything we hoped for over the next two decades. I guess we will see.

But please stop pretending that questioning the process is more than it is and that we have no reason for concern.

So this is NC State's new coach:

McNeese
Wade was hired to coach at McNeese State University on March 12, 2023, replacing John Aiken.[16]

On June 22, Wade was suspended for the first 10 games of the 2023–24 season and was given a two-year show-cause penalty for his recruiting and bribery violations at LSU.[17]

On March 20, 2025, Wade led McNeese to its first ever NCAA tournament win, beating Clemson 69–67 in the Round of 64.[18] The Cowboys went on to lose to 4-seed Purdue 62–76 in the Round of 32.[19]

Yikes, character doesn't matter in some circles.

And ultimately they could have come to the same decision after an exhaustive search.

But the belief that fans not having a list of coaches, doesn't prove anything.

Open secret that Kanon Catchings likely a Heel
The highly-touted 4-star recruit came to BYU with high expectations. But injuries and lack of playing time derailed his freshman season. Catching averaged 7.2 points per game on 41.1% shooting.

His high water mark came against Baylor, when Catchings scored 23 points on a perfect 8-for-8 shooting performance. Catchings played just nine total minutes in two NCAA Tournament games and scored two points.

meh, he was doing stuff that is fully legal now and was never exactly morally repugnant - the players always deserved to get a slice of the pie and a LOT of them at the high major level have been getting paid in some fashion for decades.

gottfried sleeping with coeds/players gf's and such was/is definitely worse.

So, what is your proposal? Has this staff earned an open ended contract? If next year is a mirror of this season, what then?

Agreed, doesn't change where we are.

So, what are your expectations for next year? Was this year a success?
