I'm not getting into the veracity (so to speak) of EC's statement, it's obviously a perspective-based thing.

But unless Carolina Basketball is going to have a BB NIL budget at least 10% larger than everyone else's, the perception of the coaching staff matters. You would hope to get a small discount based on the program's perception, not have folks think the coaches aren't good for their players' development and have to pay a premium to get guys into the program.
How do we know what the outside perception of Hubert is?

EC taking shots on his way out probably isn’t a needle mover.

It’s not like he rode the bench or was held back in some way.

UNC's staff is in massive trouble, they already had a poor reputation with 1 and dones and then Cadeau/IJ/Powell all ended up not being what was expected. I think we are about to see public perception come home to roost. Likely will be discussing our new coach this time next year.
Regarding 1 n dones, Drake Powell really likes HD (apparently Ian Jackson does too).

When a former 5-star who came a year early leaves in the transfer portal after 2 years and makes negative statements on the way out the door, it matters.

It may not matter all by itself, but added to all the other questions surrounding HD & the program it is just another straw on the camel's back.

The quote in the 247 article...

"The (Michigan) coaching staff really believe in me and know what I can do," Cadeau told 247Sports. "I want to play in an offense that best suits me and my abilities, with the correct players around me so we can all win."

:(
"correct". Boo hoo, coach didn't give me allstars to bail the team out and cover my mistakes when I made bad fouls, threw bad passes, missed wide-open shots, took wild lay-up attempts desperate for contact.

I understand the debate of HD's offensive principles, or set-plays vs not, or his micro-managing, mid-range-jumper-freedom, etc, etc, and how that might impact Cadeau ,but it is a different matter to blame failure on the makeup of your teammates. The fanbase was a little divided on EC and this made a non-fan out of me.

Sour grapes.
Cadeau was given the keys to a premier program from day 1. He was given a ton of latitude and got to play through a lot of mistakes. He was given ample opportunity to shine.

Taking shots at the coach on the way out is also a pretty bad look. Everyone knows what kind of person HD is. Whatever issues EC has were better left unsaid.
Do you think shooting 3's and surrounding him THAT lineup was the best fit for EC?

EC could have torched HD if he wanted to. I think his comments were fairly run-of-the mill for a portal player. I haven't looked, but I bet some of our incoming portal players have made similar comments over the years.

After all, why would anyone transfer out if they didn't think they could do better in a different system?

Transfer players have the right to just say no comment or "i'm looking forward to being a wolverine". Or "the last coach and my teammates might've sucked donkey, but at least I didn't call a timeout we didn't have".

They might like him, but neither are expected back, and neither are very high (if at all) up on the draft board. So, chances are better than not, that they going to portal out. That would be more straws on the camel's back, and point towards their lack of faith in HD to develop them and showcase them.

That's a very "polite" torching of HD in which the implication that all of these great things he's saying about the new coaches/school were the opposite at his old school. There was a way of hyping up his new coach/school that didn't include the subtextual shots at HD/UNC, but EC didn't go that way.

EC woke up this morning and chose violence.

Cadeau is a spoiled little brat with dookie tendencies who didn’t mature a speck in two years. If he were a dook player he’d be one of the most disliked of recent memory.

Good riddance. Glad I’m not forced to pull for him any longer.

Culture is #1.
And he reaffirmed it on the way out.

Comes off as ungrateful and petulant.

Thanks Elliott for making sure everyone is aware that you didn't feel you had "the correct players" around you, and what a whiney little weenie you actually are. Helps take some of the sting/believability out of your comments about our coaches, including Marcus, who I'm sure has spent as much time and energy as he possibly can trying to help you get better.
