That would put UNC in the top 10 in money for basketball. But it seems like they only got one real impact player in the portal in Veesaar. Maybe they didn't want to spend the money that Stojakovic was asking for. If that is the case then I wonder why if they don't have someone better they can get for the same money. Or maybe they didn't have the amount left that he was asking for. It just feels like besides Veesarr and Wilson, everyone else is a role player or a bench player. That doesn't mean the team can't be good, but just looking at the stats and the guys they did get, next season doesn't appear to be looking any better than the previous one. The scuttlebutt is that we bid against ourselves for Evans to ensure we got him, but other than that I'd guess we're at market value for a lot of our guys.

How would that help UNC? I thought the NCAA has granted a temporary waiver for athletes who previously competed at a non-NCAA institution (like junior college or NAIA). And it only applies to those who would have otherwise exhausted their eligibility after the 2024/2025 year. Do we have anyone who fits that criteria? Is there someone out there in the portal like that who would be a fit for Carolina? There may be a few football players like that, but not on our basketball team. Not that I’m aware of anyway.
If UNC has money to spend on those players, then they will likely be able to get a couple of solid, experienced players without having to break the bank, because there won't still be a lot of top programs with money to spend.

I mean there’s no “real unknown regarding wether or not players will be granted a fifth year of eligibility.”
He wanted more money than what UNC wanted to pay him. Generally, teams pay incoming transfers more than existing players. It was a gamble for Lubin that may or may not pay off.
AS? According to Ben's sources, UNC made him the highest offer, between Stanford and Illinois. He didn't choose based on money.
Maybe I misunderstood. I thought that a number of players who had exhausted their 4 year eligibility were hoping to be granted a fifth year (Withers being one such case).
