How will a Trump presidency affect you?

How this impacts my life. The path to fascism has been revealed in the United States. We can quibble about whether Trump is himself a fascist, but the larger point is that, at the very least, the blueprint to fascism is there. And it will be disturbingly easy to cross the line, if it hasn’t already been crossed. So, yeah, that’s how it impacts me.

A detention facility is not an internment camp. By the way, FDR, a Democrat, was the last president to use actual internment camps... Completely unconstitutional.
He was. And it was absolutely the wrong choice. I’d posit that all democrats would agree that it was the wrong choice, right now. As a matter of fact, I would posit that the primary goal of all democrats is to prevent fascism and a return to internment camps in America. It is why we do what we do.

Yep. What really worries me - beyond the dangers to the economy and welfare of most Americans that Trump and Project 2025 pose - is that there are no guardrails whatsoever on Trump now. His second term is almost certainly going to be very different from his first. Republicans and groups like The Heritage Foundation have had four years to plan and organize for Trump's return to power, and Democrats now have no power to stop them. If the economy does take a severe hit when they try to implement all of their agenda, then in normal times the Democrats would be set for a nice recovery in the 2026 midterms. The Senate math will actually favor them next time, and even if they lose the House this time they'll only be a handful of seats from controlling it as well.

But is there any doubt, if the Democrats look like they're going to make major gains in 2026, that Trump and especially the people around him wouldn't hesitate to resort to drastic actions to prevent that from happening - to interfere with the vote or the election in some way? And what's going to stop them - a Trump-packed Supreme Court? LOL. A Congress controlled by Trumpers? LOL. There are simply no limits or restrictions on them now, and given the type of people Trump will likely appoint to positions of power that ought to be terrifying. Would a Stephen Miller or Elon Musk or Chris Rufo or Roger Stone hesitate to find some way to overturn an election and keep Republicans in power? Of course not.

I'm with you, brother. I do hate it for the less fortunate who repudiated Trump at the ballot box but Americans need to experience the phenomenon that is FAFO in order to hopefully make more prudent electoral decisions in the future.
Unfortunately, I don't think that is going to matter. I can guarantee that any adverse effects that come down will be placed solely at the feet of the Libruls, and the Faux News Propaganda machine will be there to validate everything Trump says. Hillary and Joe were right in there assumptions that these folks are deplorable and garbage. I'm through trying to coddle these ignorant asshats. Their reliance on a completely fabricated version of reality is beyond the ridiculous and these people will deserve every bit of pain that they get, but make no mistake about it, they will NEVER hold their dear leader or the GOP accountable.
I am 53 year old man and a 24 year veteran of the Navy. FUCK the GOP and FUCK everyone of the 70+M twat waffles that voted for them.

Lol at the blind hypocrisy. And it is truly blind. Outside of a handful of posters, the tone and rhetoric of my interactions have intentionally been a mirror of the tone and rhetoric that has been directed at conservative posters on here. Yet you only see and question it when a conservative does it. That’s pretty unaware and lazy. For example, go back and look at any interaction with mpaer. It’s always respectful because he/she always interacts in a respectful way with me. Contrast that with any interaction with eyeball. Just a nasty, vile poster so that is my tone in return.

This board isn’t a place where any meaningful long term exchange of ideas can occur because that requires open minded people. Step back and try to objectively weigh the conversation and you will see a collection of individuals all bonded by their hatred and the conversation is just the same 10 or so themes repackaged in different synonyms. What makes this board so much better than IC is that it is moderated so much more fairly and not overly heavy handed. Me coming in and out on this board is due to a sporadic heavy workload, timing of meaningful events (debates, elections, big news stories, etc.). To come here daily is pointless because again, how do you have a conversation with people who have been so indoctrinated in groupthink that your time spent would have been no different than talking to a brick wall. I have said repeatedly and for years how out of touch this board is. Then you get the responses from the elites about how you know nothing and how superior liberals are and blah, blah, blah. This board still doesn’t see it, even when it stares them in the face in the form of an electoral beat down. So kind of hard to have intelligent conversations with those who are willfully blind, egos that block humility, and are completely and utterly out of touch with reality.
Yikes. This seems to be a whole lot of grievance-airing, a whole lot of blaming, and doesn’t seem to be any desired introspection on your part, so we will agree to disagree and leave it at that. If you think that you are the lone bright spot of enlightenment, objectivity, and rationality here amidst a sea of brainwashed morons, there’s probably not much use in hashing it out any further here with any of us. The reality is that all of us here- you and I included- are probably right in many of our assumptions and beliefs, and wrong about many others of our assumptions and beliefs. The difference is, you seem to take it very personally when you are challenged
and you also don’t ever believe that any of your viewpoints are wrong. I’m not talking about responding to trash talk or insults with trash talk and insults in kind- you’ll notice that there are a handful of posters with whom I’ve decided to eschew all interest in having a rational discussion or debate because those posters would rather sling shit, and I happen to be someone who enjoys punching back. What I’m talking about is your insistence, like you specifically said in this post above, that you believe that everyone else here is “blinded” and “brainwashed.” It’s your prerogative to feel that way, but understand that it does color your interactions on this board.

Dear Lord
You are thinking wayyyy too much like stephen miller. It scares me that you are probably correct
What about my thought of allowing some to stay but with an immediate deportation if they lose their job. That creates a completely powerless workforce.

I feel like I get at least 3/4 of a Miller for that.

I have no trouble admitting I was wrong about something. On this board I admitted to being wrong about Obamacare.
You questioned my sporadic participation. I gave an explanation.
There is zero offense taken or anything taken personally on an anonymous message board.

On a personal level, here are a few things I expect to impact me (I’ll add more to this list as I think it over):

1. No further hope of student loan forgiveness. Potentially an end to the PSLF program I’ve been enrolled in for 7 years. Dashing any notions of buying a home.

2. My job will be in danger. I work for a nonprofit research org—the bulk of my work is funded through federal grants from CDC, CMS, etc. The funding always dips during R administrations, but there’s a high likelihood that much of it will dry up entirely with Trump, Musk, and RFK Jr at the helm.

3. My girlfriend’s career (and mental health) will be greatly impacted. As noted in another thread, she’s an immigration attorney who’s worked in nonprofits for a couple decades, helping underprivileged and abused women and children. So…yeah.

How about you?
I will be constipated for the next four years. Chronic neck pain. Back pain. Pain in my ass. I’ll be ornery as hell and people had better stay outta my way. I plan on pissing on everybody’s Cornflakes and stealing your joy. Stay away from me.

As a tax payer i, along with everybody else who paid off their own student loans, won’t have to subsidize anymore crybabies student loans so that is a great thing. Time to man up and show some responsibility. You borrow it, you pay it just like everyone else did. As well, it takes a pretty low person to want those who didn’t go to college, or couldn’t go for whatever reason to have to pay other’s student loans.

Biden cancels another $4.28 billion in U.S. student loans

(Reuters) - The Biden administration on Friday canceled another $4.28 billion in student debt for nearly 55,000 public service workers, the U.S. Department of Education said in a statement.

I will give Trump credit so far for one thing.

As a net buyer in the stock market, I expect to be buying stocks cheaper for the next four years than I would under a Harris presidency.
Yep

I have been nibbling on dividend paying defensive stocks over the last week. When President Musk and his sidekick Trump take office and tanks the market bigly, I will bigly deploy more of my cash into cheap dividend paying defensive stocks and hope the economic nightmare will last only 4 years.

I have a nice chunk of change sitting on the sidelines so I'm very much looking forward to this.
