How will a Trump presidency affect you?

So the Board's position is that no federal job and/or federal program can be cut by a Republican? It's ok for Clinton to cut 377k federal jobs and you can support THAT and feel like a good and virtuous person but if you support DOGE (and Trump) and someone loses a federal job you're a heartless "Coward."

It's the same theory with deportations of illegals. Obama: Good Trump: BAD....REALLY BAD.
No, you intentionally obtuse turnip, the consensus of the board is that when you cheer for stupid and indiscriminate cuts to federal funding which you are well aware will cost people their jobs, you have to wear that shit when it actually costs people their job.

You voted for Eyeball to be unemployed. You cheered the program happening. You got what you wanted. The shoe fits, Cinderella, so now you have to wear it.

Your reputation on the board is earned.

Fuck right off.

Clinton went through the process of actually conducting an audit. He got bipartisan congressional approval, and the layoffs happened over the course of several years.

Trump and DOGE said fuck you to congress, didn’t conduct an audit, and sliced anything they considered “DEI” or that went against the admin’s priorities (e.g., USAID, funding for COVID research and vaccines, funding for ongoing research into tons of public health programs).

seriously, you’re the worst kind of person.

Apparently government jobs are "forever", unless the firings happen under specific conditions which seem to be a President with a D in front of his name.

I'm sure those who were termed felt much better....

On a personal level, here are a few things I expect to impact me (I’ll add more to this list as I think it over):

1. No further hope of student loan forgiveness. Potentially an end to the PSLF program I’ve been enrolled in for 7 years. Dashing any notions of buying a home.

2. My job will be in danger. I work for a nonprofit research org—the bulk of my work is funded through federal grants from CDC, CMS, etc. The funding always dips during R administrations, but there’s a high likelihood that much of it will dry up entirely with Trump, Musk, and RFK Jr at the helm.

3. My girlfriend’s career (and mental health) will be greatly impacted. As noted in another thread, she’s an immigration attorney who’s worked in nonprofits for a couple decades, helping underprivileged and abused women and children. So…yeah.

How about you?
We've now been waiting on the phone for over an hour with the IRS because of a Trump tax department screw-up.

Thanks, Trump.

Clinton/Gore ended more than 100 programs
Clinton and Congress you mean, including GOP congresses.

And there was a long leadup. They held public hearings. People who were on the chopping block had lots of time in advance to prepare. Many roles were phased out after retirement.

None of that is true here, which is why DOGE can only be aptly characterized as both evil and stupid.

Your arguments would be taken a lot more seriously if you did not straw man the other side. I know Fox News and conservative media love to make straw man arguments. But on this board -- especially as a lawyer -- it would help your credibility tremendously if you did not create fake arguments by the other side for you to counter with your "reasonable" position.

As many, many people have posted, there is a right way and a wrong way to downsize the federal government. No one is saying that only Democrats can reduce government bureaucracy. If Trump wants to cut government waste, he should do so thoughtfully, in consultation with Congress (passing laws where necessary under the Constitution) and with appropriate notice to those affected. Just randomly firing people to put fake numbers on a fake tote board is not good policy.

DOGE was necessary , in part, because Biden aggressively thrust DEI programs and positions in every sector of government. Drastic and swift action is required to undo that mess. Same with deportations. The mess was created by the prior administration, which required a drastic response.

Those are facts and not straw man arguments against Dems. Also, no other Democrat not named Clinton has ever showed an iota of interest in reducing government bureaucracy or the federal workforce. Government continues to grow and grow even though our population has leveled off.

Every sentence and sentence fragment in that gobbledygook is false.

This is bullshit

Well—it happened. Just received notice that I’ve been laid off, effective at the end of the month.

Most of my work was based on contracts with CDC, CMS, and NIH. That work has dried up significantly over the past few months, thanks to Trump. And so…here we are.

Fuck me.
Sorry to hear. Losing your job sucks. Hoping you find something equal or better quickly.
