How will a Trump presidency affect you?

Why? People with no school age children pay taxes for schools. People who don’t go to college pay taxes which support state university systems. The child tax credits are simply everybody subsidizing other peoples’ kids. Renters subsidize homeowners who get mortgage interest deductions. I don’t disagree with this things but we pay taxes for the overall betterment of society. We don’t get to pick and choose an a micro-level what we will pay for and what we won’t.
Simply reimburse everyone who sacrificed and paid back their student loans. Wasn’t easy to pay them back and I’m sure everyone who did would have rather had that money to spend elsewhere. If you are too stupid to figure out your ed. costs vs your expected earnings and make responsible choices as to where you attend college, major, how much you borrowed, etc., then you are to stupid to be in college.

You are not subsidizing anyone at all. Your taxes do not depend on fiscal outlays, especially relatively small ones like this. That fact has been established over and over again.

And people not going to college are not paying for anyone's student loans. They don't pay much tax period.

It takes a much lower person to wish vengeance upon people for whom college didn't work out that well. A lot of people with big student loan bills are people who took out money and couldn't finish school for one reason or another -- whether it was poor performance or personal tragedy. If they started a business and failed, they could wipe out their debts in bankruptcy. Not so with student loans.

I had a student whose brother was a competitive skier and who died in a freak skiing accident. She withdrew from school in April because she was too devastated to take her finals. She did not return. 3 semesters of law school. I had another student who withdrew when her husband came back from Afghanistan with a traumatic brain injury. She was in her 5th semester. She did not return. I had another student who got cancer. She actually stayed in school for three semesters while receiving chemo.

But hey, who gives a shit about those people.

That last student had one of the saddest stories I've ever heard. She was a Roma woman who was raped by Serbian soldiers as a young teen. She got pregnant, and because of her traditional culture, she was shunned by much of her family and abortion would have meant exile. So she resettled in the US. Meanwhile, she developed severe epilepsy and had a rescue dog accompany her everywhere. Then she got cancer. Died about a year after she would have graduated.

And the reason I know a lot about her was that she confided in me because some of the other professors were super-assholish to her. There were professors who were really unhappy about the prospect of having a rescue dog in class. They didn't exactly tell her she couldn't, but she made it uncomfortable enough that she had to change sections multiple times. There were like 5-8 law professors she trusted. It kind of sucked for her, because she hated corporate law, but she took my classes anyway because she knew I would always be an ally.
Then maybe the schools should step up to help in those isolated cases. We all have sad stories. I had an immediate family member die while I was in school. I paid my loans and I'm sure there are hundreds of thousands of people with sad stories who also paid their loans. As for "subsidizing", its still tax money and anyone who pays taxes is having a portion of it go to paying for other's poor choices. Those people in most cases actually have a college education and should be able to pay their loans back. And to say that if you didn't go to college you probably aren't paying taxes is blatantly false.

I didn't say they "probably aren't paying much taxes."

When did you go to school? College was much, much cheaper back then.

It's literally not tax money. It is literally borrowed money.

In many cases, they don't have a college education and that's a big part of the problem.

l'd MUCH rather forgive student loans than pay trillions of dollars to rebuild in flood zones after hurricanes. If you live in Florida, you assume the risk of hurricane damage. We should NOT be bailing out rich homeowners who are too stupid to insure against what happens all the time. But of course, your outrage is always selective. It's always the same with you people. You are so massively insecure about yourselves that you just hate, hate, hate smart educated people. It pores out of your ample sweat glands with every key stroke.

Folks working for the large agribusinesses have a much higher likelihood of skating by, because bribes. Never forget, Trump is deeply racist and revanchist, but he’s also the most easily manipulated and avarice driven human being to ever hold the presidency, the vice presidency, or any cabinet position. For a few mil, Tyson, Monsanto, Cargill, Foster Farms, etc. will be able to keep X% of their undocumented workforces. Therefore, prices will go up bc economies of scale and production go down, while the companies also pass off the bribes and tariff costs to the consumer.

He already ran the most corrupt administration we’ve seen in the modern era, to the point Harding was blushing in his grave.
No doubt
So the question is "who do these bastads target" ?

Shared governance in academia will be under attack. Ironically, proponents of "freedom" and the "free market" will violte those tenants with education.

Best to keep the masses ignorant.

Science funding, ironic with Musk involved, will suffer as well.
I think public ed and higher ed are going to be major targets for attack from the Trump administration and Republicans in the states, especially red states. Republicans have been steadily ramping up their attacks on public ed for the past decade, and with this sweeping victory we're likely going to see major efforts to drastically "reform" public ed. We'll likely see efforts to rewrite school curricula (especially in Social Studies) to move it in a far more conservative direction, efforts to force AP classes (again, especially Social Studies) to alter their curricula to suit right-wingers, giving parents (namely Moms for Liberty types) more direct control over public schools than ever (I've read that among the proposals the Trump administration is considering is allowing parents to choose public school principals), outlawing any public discussion of LGBTQ issues in schools and banning any LGBTQ club or organization on public school grounds, etc. And efforts to insert conservative Christianity into schools in any way possible. If people won't send their kids to churches anymore to be indoctrinated, they'll just force it on kids at school. Of course some of this has already been done in states like Florida, and they'll just try to take it nationwide.

In higher ed I would expect there will be efforts to end tenure nationally at public universities, efforts to eliminate more and more liberal and fine arts programs, eliminate departments that are seen as too liberal or radical (Gender Studies, Women's Studies, Cultural Studies, etc.), eliminate all DEI departments and programs at public universities, etc. And I'm sure that right-wingers like Chris Rufo will be at the forefront of these efforts. As bad as things have gotten for public ed I think it may all seem minor compared to what's coming. These are dark, dark days for public education in America.

Lol apparently you know nothing about the “rich homeowners” in Florida if you think they don’t have insurance. And I’m not so insecure that I had a meltdown over an election, proclaimed I’m mentally off so I’m taking a break, and then returns mere hours later. Always skirting personal accountability. As I said I am just giddy that those with student loans will likely have to continue meeting their obligations. The snowflake generation raised by snowflake parents.

The whole maga movement is because y'all are mad the smart people did better in life than you did.

Ridiculous. Once our Trump tax cuts take effect do they reimburse us for the higher taxes we paid in previous years? This shit ain’t retroactive….you’re just bitter.

The snowflake generation raised by snowflake parents.
You are the biggest snowflake around, except for Trump. You are always whining about some grievance, no matter how small and petty.

Personal accountability would be to admit that your user name was based on a false idea. It's OK. You can admit to making a mistake.

Does disagreeing with a policy = being bitter? I am bitter that Biden basically decided to dismiss the courts decision. But I just chalk it up to now it’s ok when trump does something similar and complaints from this board will be laughable. I’m not bitter anymore because the freeloaders will have to actually behave like adults and repay their loans. More people disagree with it than agree so I’m not alone in my opposition. can’t wait for all those executive actions to begin

So you’re bitter. And you dodged the question.

My man’s team just won an election and he’s here still furious lololol. It’s been wild reading on this board the last few days. With a few exceptions, you’d think the roles were reversed and that Democrats won the election and Republicans lost it. The hell are y'all so mad about!?

Because you elite motherfuckers looked down on them. That triggered their already fragile inferiority complex.
