Well we already knew that if we kept HD we were unlikely to get the better results, and the "upholding the legacy" part did not seem to be helping us get better results. So even understanding that it is a very real possibility that, as you say, what comes next will be even worse, I really just don't think that continuing on the path we were on was a reasonable option. By all accounts , if we had kept Hubert, we were looking at another offseason of massive player turnover except without many of the donor NIL resources that brought us players like Wilson and Veesaar the previous offseason.IMO we’re going to find out that what many are dismissing as well worth the risk to cut HD, and fairly easily maintain or regain a connection to the tradition and legacy with a total outsider, *while also* putting up seasons well ahead of HD’s results… we’re going to find out the hard way that it is a needle that won’t likely be threaded — from the side of clearly better results, or the side of upholding the legacy in meaningful ways, or neither.
Bottom line is that there is no real way to "uphold the legacy" without winning and we looked unlikely to do that moving forward. So change was necessary, even understanding that change brings the very real possibility of failing with the next coach, too.
