I will say this
If Huberts contract says pay him X million if we fire him
Pay him
I'm guessing he will get the vast majority, if not the entirety, of what we'd owe him if we fired him and he'll be allowed to resign (unless he were to absolutely refuse, which I doubt he'll do).

I wish Hubert would tell UNC to pay him what he is owed, give 'em the finger and fucking leave. He is a nice person and doesn't deserve this BS.
I don't mean this as a call out of tarheelbillie, but this is a good post to ask this question.

I've seen a few posts like this (here and elsewhere) that essentially wish that HD would make a defiant show of rebellion on his way out.

What is the purpose behind wishing/rooting for this?

It would do immeasurable damage to the program and everyone involved - including HD and his supporters - would come out looking worse for it. Why would you want that to happen?

Everyone wants to give the finger to their employer at least occasionally. It’s just bartalk.

Eh, I think for people who are upset that the firing is happening this is one way to express it.

Carolina has been far better over the past 5 years than Kentucky.
Not sure I agree with that. The last 5 years for each:

UK:
  • 2022: 2 seed, 1st round NCAAT
  • 2023: 6 seed, 2nd round NCAAT
  • 2024: 3 seed, 1st round NCAAT
  • 2025: 3 seed, S16
  • 2026: 7 seed, 2nd round NCAAT
UNC:
  • 2022: 8 seed, title game
  • 2023: missed tourney
  • 2024: 1 seed, S16
  • 2025: 11 seed, 1st round NCAAT
  • 2026: 6 seed, 1st round NCAAT
You can definitely argue that our deep 2022 run compared with their embarrassing 1st round exits gives us the edge. But they've been the better team during the regular season across that period. I would honestly say both programs have been about the same, all things considered.

whoops somehow missed last two pages of this thread.

Who knows? What happens if there are meetings? "I'm sorry, I can neither confirm or deny I'm coaching next year. How's the weather?". Sounds like a waste of time to me. Somebody should have cancelled.
I was saying that for him to postpone/cancel the meetings leads to thinking that he’s pushing back on being asked to resign. If he was going to step down/already has I would think that he would still have the meetings to talk about the past season, what the player improved on and what he thinks they should focus on going forward. But you are right, there’s no way to know at this point.

Sure, but I would imagine Carolina fans would have as much interest in things working out of the "employer" as for the "employee" in this case.

As far as the JW interview goes, while this year didn't go as well as hoped, arguing the we're not a Blue Blood following a season where we beat all of Kansas, Kentucky and dook is hilarious.
