Doesn’t hurt. Regardless, the window is getting smaller and smaller on how you can logically fire Hubert, in my opinion. If we get Mingo does that help Coach Davis get another year?
I know casual.unc fans who are aghast it's being discussed. I've said it before. UNC firing its first AA coach in a major sport with Davis' resume could be a total PR disaster.Doesn’t hurt. Regardless, the window is getting smaller and smaller on how you can logically fire Hubert, in my opinion.
He isnt going to get fired. The combination of the Duke win and the Caleb injury settles it. Even a collapse from here forward would be viewed as result of injury and bad luck.Doesn’t hurt. Regardless, the window is getting smaller and smaller on how you can logically fire Hubert, in my opinion.
I think the window will largely be the window until either HD gets a whole lot better or the AD decides to act to move on. HD is an alum and the hand-picked successor of the previous, very successful, coach. it's always going to be painful to relieve him of his position whether that's after a run of terrible seasons or after merely decent ones. The operative question is when the AD feels the pain of moving on is less than the pain of keeping him.Regardless, the window is getting smaller and smaller on how you can logically fire Hubert, in my opinion.
I don’t think a recruit with Mingo’s profile should be a deciding factor one way or the other for whether or not a coach is fired. He might end up being awesome but it’s unlikely that he ends up being a true program-changing freshman like a Wilson/Dybantsa/Boozer.If we get Mingo does that help Coach Davis get another year?
that would be operating out of fear.Just different approaches, but I wouldn't fire a coach unless I'm pretty certain I'm getting a better coach.
I think there's good candidates out there, I just disagree that the list is as deep as you think it is. But I would assume that given our resources and history, we would be able to get a good coach.
The irony in all this is that I'm on a committee to hire a national team coach...joining in as damage control. Our Federation fired a coach but now they're struggling to get a replacement who's better.
i don't think AA is a factor here. He's had 5 years..I think the family ties and extreme swings are the challenge...beating dook and UVA after Cal/Stanford/SMU is so Hubert.I know casual.unc fans who are aghast it's being discussed. Doherty was 22-15 (8-8) at Notre Dame. He wasn’t even a “flash-in-the-pan” coach.Yeah, there is a real danger in hiring a flash-in-the-pan coach that has had a couple of good years that may be more due to individual players or team chemistry that isn’t likely to be replicated long term. See Matt Doherty.
What from Caleb Wilson tells you “he would just shut it down…and turn his focus to the draft?”Even if heals and gets the ok to return, I have to wonder if he would just shut it down at this point and turn his focus to the draft.

If HD is back, and unless we are a lot more successful, then next year is likely going to be worse from a disgruntled fan perspective. From a program perspective, this season has been - in many ways - the worst case scenario, no real success but just enough that each side of the divide feels further justified in their stance
You honestly don't think the talking heads would pounce? Alum. AA. 25 wins a year. Also, as referenced often here, UNC is under seize by the far right that wants to purge the liberal lean from its halls. They would pounce and it could be ugly Dream on.that would be operating out of fear.
You can never really evaluate how great a coach is going to be in the environment, but I think the Hubert decision is based on what we've seen... and whether or not we think he's improving.
Is this a job where we want to give someone 7 years to become who we want?

Pretty certain that what Coach Smith said was that in the first game after losing a good/great (don’t think Coach Smith ever called a Carolina player “great”) player, the team pulled together and played well…..Games 2, 3, etc., you’d miss the starter more than the team rallying together helped the team.Coach Smith said a team can pull together and overcome losing a key player for a while. But eventually, losing that player takes its toll on how the team fares.
This really fucking sucks. We have not had a player like Caleb in a long time. He has been a joy to watch. Hopefully he can come back.
As if Dickie Baddour could navigate a football or basketball coach hiring process. We should have known something was up when The Notre Dame buy out was an order of Pokey Stix and a contract we had to sign in blood that said "no backsies."
He ain't shutting it down. What from Caleb Wilson tells you “he would just shut it down…and turn his focus to the draft?”
The kid is constantly enthused and eager. He wants TO PLAY and COMPETE. A characteristic he shares with MJ.
I agree with this. I do think getting No. 1 PG and No. 2 overall player should, however, indicate that Hubert is doing better job of what I call getting dook recruits. Top 10 players. Powell, Jackson, Wilson, perhaps Dingo. Also maximo Adams, while not too 10, had offer from dook. So better recruiting should be factor in his favor obviously.I don’t think a recruit with Mingo’s profile should be a deciding factor one way or the other for whether or not a coach is fired.
