I'll help. I'm pretty sure this is what you're referring to. And I'm guessing you're skeptical about him ever reneging. Me, too.

When Chancellor William Aycock hired Dean Smith as the head basketball coach at the University of North Carolina in 1961, he gave him the following primary conditions and instructions:
  • Run a Clean Program: Following a recruiting scandal and NCAA probation that led to Frank McGuire’s resignation, the primary mandate was to ensure the program operated with integrity.
  • Prioritize Ethics Over Wins: Aycock told the 30-year-old Smith that running a clean program that represented the university well was more important than the immediate wins and losses on the scoreboard.
  • Adhere to NCAA Rules: Smith was explicitly instructed to always play fair and operate within NCAA rules

No I have argued that the ones who want him out are fringe and would need a gps to find chapel hill. Now they are loud.
Aside from being opinion masquerading as fact, this is just a typically bad faith use of the “no true Scotsman” fallacy. I don’t think it’s time to make a final decision yet, but if we get a 6 seed and don’t make the S16 I’ll probably lean towards wanting to make a change. And my parents, siblings and I have 9 UNC degrees between us. So please spare me the BS rhetorical framing.

In fairness to @heel79, he was referring to the MAGA politicians who are gunning for Hubert, not UNC fans.

I forget the details but it was in Mack 1s last year We had a good team , maybe ranked top 10? Packed stadiums -rahrah
Anyway we lose against a really good opponent-My guess is that was FSU or Clemson
That was it for the fans"We aren't going to the Orange Bowl-not gonna win a Natty" So Duke game half empty
Shittiest football fans ever
I was at the dook** game and thought we have had a great season and on a sunny beautiful fall day ,we can't muster a decent size crowd to watch us play our arch rival ?

Finished 11-1 in 1997 but we did not beat F$U

That's UNC football fans for you year in and year out , bless their hearts ...

Google is your friend.
Come on, dude. I'm trying not to take sides in this issue. I've made observations that cut both ways. But if you're going to be a jerk . . .

The problem with "google" is that I don't know what to search for. What point are you trying to make? What should I ask: "What did Dean Smith think about [fill in the blank]" Without that last bit, google can't help

Google dean smith on firing coaches. There is an AI overview. Maybe it's garbage I dont know. But it sounds like the dean smith I grew up watching. Process patience and his belief that a coach needs 5 to 6;years before judgement..I got two family crisises I am dealing with so I am out for awhile.

I really don't think invoking Dean is helpful at all here. Let his legend live in peace. Nobody actually knows what he would think, so this will end up as one of those Cultural Revolution style fights about who is most loyal to Mao Dean. And it doesn't really matter what Dean would think anyway. He was our coach 30 years ago.
This is what the HD haters rationalize their way into believing. Because they know they’re on the wrong side of where Dean would be, and where Roy is; just like the rest of us know. And that makes them squirm.

But yes, sure, of course it’s all purely conjecture. It’s not like we have lifetimes of observed examples and experience to go on.

duluoz used to come after me hard on LeBron James threads back on IC but we're in sync when he comes to Hubert.

Sounds like Dean would agree on judging a coach after 5 years?

The point super was making, I believe, was that you don’t know which side of the street Dean would be on, nor do you know which side Roy is currently on without asking him. Have you chatted with Roy about his feelings on HD’s tenure recently?

We also couldn’t possibly know who MLK would’ve voted for in the last presidential election. Nobody talked to him about it, right? But we can make a half decent guess.

Do you think Dean would have pushed for Hubert to be fired after this season?
I think anyone who says they know for sure is more confident than me. Did he speak out against Doherty being fired after three seasons?

What, exactly, are you saying Dean's position on Hubert would be? That as long as he makes the NCAAT, that's enough? That as long as he demonstrates high standards of ethics and integrity the results don't matter? What?
