No well-conditioned athlete should be exhausted given the length and frequency of time-outs in NCAA Tourney games. It's largely on the players but it's also not the players' fault that HD forced 4 guys to play the entire second half and exhausted them
Yep, that's kind of where I am. The more this sinks in I just don't think Davis is going to recover from this loss, it's just devastating. And it comes after the Clemson game where we did the opposite - falling way behind before suddenly realizing that we were playing a game and catching fire but falling short. "Falling short" seems to be a growing theme of Davis's coaching tenure here, and I don't think he recovers from this, as it's going to leave a bitter taste. I doubt that the UNC powers that be will fire him - although it's certainly a possibility - but I do think that he should just resign gracefully soon. I doubt he will, but at this point it probably may be what's best for the program, as another year like this (and next year may well be worse than this one, given that we're losing all 3 of our best players) is only prolonging the inevitable for another year (not unlike Belichick, imo. If Hubert stays we'll probably be looking for a new football and basketball coach at the same time next year). This loss may be horrific enough to end the Hubert Davis era. Without Wilson a deep NCAAT run wasn't happening regardless but the way they lost this one with the whole CBB world watching may be the trauma needed to make it happen.
If so, the hire needs to be the right one.
At least women’s lax is dominatingThis is precisely what worries me too. But at this point I'm not sure that keeping Davis is an option - this is a devastating loss and one that I'm not sure he's going to recover from. But I definitely agree 100% that the thought of Lee Roberts and the BOG and BOT finding the best available coach is very worrisome. These are, after all, basically the same folks who brought us Belichick. Just a very rough time for UNC sports.
We are said to be top 5-10 in NIL. Do you not find that acceptable?I also think if we are going to bring in a new coach the powers that be need to fully commit to making us competitive in the NIL world as well
This is foolish. Henri Veesaar is 7 feet tall. If you think he can play the whole 2nd half without a sub and be fresh at the end of it you're crazy. And if you couldn't tell how tired we were down the stretch you weren't watching. No well-conditioned athlete should be exhausted given the length and frequency of time-outs in NCAA Tourney games.
See, this is the problem with you. You can't keep a coherent idea in your head for even five minutes. According to you, the problem was that he took the foot of the gas. Now you're saying the problem was too much gas, that he didn't rest the players. Which is it, dude?Terrible rotation in the 2nd half. Up by 19 and you don't get Trimble and Veesaar a breather? Then you leave them in for a 12-0 run without calling a timeout now you can't take them out. Didn't call a timeout on the 5 second violation. All those things are Hubert's fault.
Need to find a bit more.We are said to be top 5-10 in NIL. Do you not find that acceptable?
Try watching Wemby. He's incredibly well conditioned, but he gets exhausted. NBA games have even more timeouts. It's hard to be tall and runNo well-conditioned athlete should be exhausted given the length and frequency of time-outs in NCAA Tourney games.
The problem with linking these types of articles is that you're just citing morons. The minute someone says, "he should have called more timeouts" I know that is not a serious person. It's a moron.![]()
Pathetic UNC meltdown vs VCU has to be the final straw for Hubert Davis
Thursday night's ugly collapse has to be the end of the Hubert Davis era in Chapel Hill.keepingitheel.com
I missed this. What happened? It wasn’t a presser. You must not have seen it. It was a speech to the team… no press was there save for a cameraman. No, it was a speech to the players right after they all learned they got a 6 seed in Greenville.
Hubert broke the unwritten rule of coaching in front of the entire team. Unforgivable in my coaching opinion. And I coached for over 25 years.
