I wish Hubert would tell UNC to pay him what he is owed, give 'em the finger and fucking leave. He is a nice person and doesn't deserve this BS.
He's been paid like $25 million by UNC and delivered results that were less than expected/desired and I'm sure were less than what he hoped. I have sympathy for Hubert as a human, but he chose a profession that is highly lucrative in exchange for being extremely high-pressure and highly public. So I don't really think it's fair to suggest that he doesn't "deserve" this. He knew the expectations when he took the job, and it was more than just "be a nice guy and have a little success now and then."

I basically agree, with the exception that it wasn't something he took upon himself to pursue. If he isn't sought out by Roy, does he ever get in to coaching? All that being said, nobody has to worry about him being a jerk on the way out, because that's no who he is. He has been a wonderful ambassador for UNC, and I hope he will be treated and respected as such in this transition.

We could show a little more class in how we're pushing him out the door. It's pretty clear how it's ending. Take him out of public limbo.

I think it's presumptuous to presume to know what is happening behind the scenes now. I certainly have no idea. The delay may well be attributable to what Hubert wants, not what UNC wants. And there have been indications that UNC's goal is to allow him to exit with as much dignity as possible. But in any event it's been like 4 days since our season ended, not like we are keeping him in "limbo" for some insane amount of time.

if, as has been reported, the aim is for him to be able to announce the parting of ways on his terms, then it has to be up to him to cooperate. i'm sure it would be easy to announce a firing, but that's the thing he supposedly "deserves better" than.

But, I want to know now! What about my feelings?

Carolina has been far better over the past 5 years than Kentucky. They missed the tourny with a losing record (9-16) the year after covid, lost in the first round twice and the second round twice. Their crowing achievement in the past 5 years is a Sweet 16 appearance. We've got one of those and, oh yeah, a finals appearance was well. That alone would boost us well above UK in terms of short term achievement. Now then, clearly we have not been a top 5 program over that period, but we've been well ahead of UK. For JW to point out our fallen status over the past short term while still polishing UK's underserving knob is either idiocy or deliberately twisting the knife. I tend to think the latter...

I knew the coming response but for me this joke applies :)
Why Old Men Don't Get Hired...
Job Interview:
Human Resources Manager: "What is your greatest weakness?"
Old Man : "Honesty."
Human Resources Manager: "I don't think honesty is a weakness."
Old Man : "I don't really [care] what you think."

I know where you're coming from. But we may go thru a dozen coaches before we find a worthy replacement for Dean and Roy. And I remember it took Dean several seasons to really gain traction. Ever think that the "problem" may be that Hubert is too nice and doesn't take a in depth look at his staff. Head coach has a lot of duties beyond actually doing hands on coaching... I would imagine. Just an opinion.

JW’s reason for having UK higher was their big social media presence. Lol.

You're absolutely right that we may go through several coaches looking for our next HOF-caliber coach. But that doesn't mean we should just settle for someone that is not up to UNC's standards as a coach. Unless you think we should just cede UNC's historical status as one of the preeminent programs in the country. We have no guarantee that the next guy will succeed in the way we want, but I don't really think we have any choice. We have to do our best to hire our next star coach until we succeed in doing that. Even if we have to fire 5 other guys to get there.

And yeah, some of Hubert's problems may be off-court as well as on-court. And some of the issues with UNC bball may not be his fault. But whatever the problem(s) are, it's now pretty clear that he isn't the solution.

Wow, didn't realize he was paid that much.

while this is all technically true, to the casual fan UNC and UK have been equally mediocre for several years now.

the last time we were really good was 2 years ago now. the magical run to the national championship game while vanquishing dook and the rat was 4 years ago.

kentucky still gets a massive boost from having superstars littered all over the NBA which we do not have any more.
