IC going to On3

They are leaving 247 and joining On3. Just changing what company they work with. Forums will look something like this but with Carolina colors. This is Clemsons free board which means IC will probably have a free board:

So does this mean new boards will show up on On3 on Aug 1? Do the 247 boards go away, or do they just fall under new management?

No details have been given publicly.

The best we think we know is that the current IC threads will not be imported to On3. No one knows if 247 will keep the current boards/threads or if they’ll nuke them and start over. (If they can keep them, IMHO, they’d be crazy not to.)

Wait! So On3 permits political threads? I wonder what Ben Sherman thinks about that?
247 permits it too. It was IC, not 247, that made the decision to jettison politics because the juice wasn't worth the squeeze. I am sure that there will not be a new ZZL-P on IC On3 for the same reason there has not been one on IC 247.

This is, I think, the fourth time IC has switched networks. It has been Rivals, Scout, 247 (and FoxSportsNext for about two weeks). Every network switch has been straightforward and fair - and Terry was the founder of both Rivals and 247.

I am not at all worried about Terry. IC will be calling the shots here. Now IC did disappoint me with the somewhat emotional decision to shut down ZZL-P with very little notice. I suppose they could make another “screw the customer” decision again. But I’m willing to give them the benefit of the doubt until I have reason to believe otherwise.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but wasn’t every previous network switch (other than the move from Rivals to TheInsiders before Ben & UNCbasketball joined with IC) IC's entire network moving rather than IC switching networks. And the switch from Rivals to TheInsiders is the reason that so many longtime users all have the same joined date in 2001, yes?

Also, I'm pretty sure that Jim Heckman founded Rivals, not Terry Shannon. Shannon bought Rivals when it essentially went bankrupt and rebuilt it. Heckman then founded TheInsiders, which eventually became Scout.

I'm not saying this will go badly and that Ben, Buck, & IC won't do everything possible to make it go as well as possible. But I think it's important to note this is a different kind of network switch than IC has experienced in almost 25 years and so things likely won't go the same way as they have before...and the network switch 25 years ago that is more like this one left a lasting mark on IC that you can still detect via the user joined dates of some posters.

It’s interesting to think about.

I don’t know how you keep the threads, especially if THI takes over, given that they’d be mentioning IC all over the place which is now a competitor on another forum.

Porting the threads from IC247 to ICOn3 is doable but Shannon Terry just doesn’t want to pay for it to happen. That’s assuming IC has the legal rights to their content and Paramount doesn’t.

A lot of stuff to think about. Will be fascinating to see how it shakes out.

I don’t think it’s going to go badly and it will eventually work itself out but it’s going to be a massive cluster fuck for a hot minute.

There's a poster on ZZL saying that this board hates America.
I wonder if they were one of the many Trumper "worthies" who flooded the old IC ZZLP over its last couple of weeks of life when the mods left and most liberal posters came here. It was really extraordinary to read - the resentment, bitterness, anger, and bile just flowed from those posters like a flooding river. Some recounted incidents from years earlier, others complained about being banned years ago, many ranted about how they never felt welcome or respected by board liberals, others said they'd never posted but had obviously read the board regularly and hated liberals and were so happy it was being shut down, and just on and on. It was great insight into the mindset and resentments of MAGA Nation.

Same. Note my gif response in that thread lol. The vast majority of ZZL posters who would be meaningful contributors to this board are already here.
I hadn't read the IC ZZL in ages, but after reading that they were posting about us I just went over and read the comments. It's pretty funny - lots of the usual complaints that this board "lacks diversity", we're a bunch of meanies and bullies, we don't tolerate political extremes (but we're also, to quote, "a bunch of loons"), we only want bad things to happen to America, and so on. Yeah, I'm not sure that we want a lot of those folks posting over here. It's mostly just sad vibes over there right now though, as they're worried that the ZZL board will cease to exist when they move and they'll have nowhere else to go.

ETA: I will say yet again that I thank god for the folks like Rock that created this board. It's been a great place for the past year and has plenty of traffic and (contrary to the opinion of some of the folks on the IC ZZL) is a great place to go for good conversations and posters.

Now you’re taxing my memory. Tar Pit and UNCbasketball.com merged when? 2000? And then was the order Rivals, Scout, FSN, Scout, 247 and On3? Was Scout the new name of Insiders?

I think just one of those was a network wide switch. Though I can’t remember which one. Everyone else was IC going to greener pastures.

ZZL has been circling the drain for a long time anyway. Their criticism of this board for not having enough diversity of thought or whatever is pretty funny though. What they really mean is that conservative opinions aren’t welcome here. My opinion though is that there aren’t enough thoughtful, well-meaning Republicans these days to ever have a productive message board with equal representation from both sides of the aisle. The handful of Republican posters on here are a prime example of why it can’t happen. They don’t care about having actual discussion, they just want to goad other posters and pick fights.

I agree with you on both parts.

I think what folks aren't prepared for (IC users, not admin) is that nearly all the previous network switches have been IC's entire network switching to something new, not just IC swtiching over. That means that there's coordinated IT behind the scenes to make the switch overs as smooth as possible.

In this case, 247 has no reason to make this easy on IC and On3 has made it clear they aren't terribly interested in preserving continuity. Of course, there could be some things that IC pushes on them beyond what they want to do, but the fact that IC can't talk about it publicly until August 1st when the change is to take place makes this all the worse.

Also, IC's paid user base is fairly old at this point and a lot of them seem fairly unsavvy when it comes to technology/the internet. That's going to be an additional wrench in the works.

In short, I think this is going to be an absolutely insane transition and I might have to try to block off my Friday to watch.

There you go picking on me

I believe the order goes...

1990s: IC (pre Buck or Ben) is on Rivals

Late 2000: Buck (& TheTarPit) buys IC

Early 2001: Rivals essentially folds

Slightly later 2001: IC moves to TheInsiders

July 2001: UNCbb (Ben) joins with IC (Buck)

2003?: TheInsiders rebranded as Scout (no message board transition)

2005: Scout was bought out by FoxSports and was to be rebranded as FoxSportsNext (failed message board transition in 2006/7?)

2013: FoxSports spun off Scout to North America Media Group (no message board transition, but we did get the spinning butthole)

2017: NAMG goes bankrupt, Scout acquired by 247Sports (message board transition, but mostly upgrades as 247 had no real message board community)

2025: IC goes from 247 to On3
