IC going to On3

That’s an interesting thought. If I had to guess, IC will not be bringing over anything other than “Hoops talk” and “Football talk” and Off-Topic. I guess I could look at other On3 communities and see if they personalized their forum space.

We also own the above. ZZL.com is taken. But, redirecting to ziggazoombalounge.com is a thought. Given our one year anniversary is coming up this month, could be a good timing.
 
Wouldn't that be a delicious turn of fate -- IC is too good for politics and those that care about it only for a politics-only board to be the life raft that the rest of those haters have to swim to. Can we keep the politics board at the top of the message board list in perpetuity just to drive home whose board they're on?
 
I really didn’t know people held On3 in such low regard. Person after person on IC saying eff that place.

I have never been to On3, so I have no informed opinion, but IC folks get riled up every time they are forced to make a change. My guess is that the same people who were irate about the forced move to 247, will also be irate over being forced to leave 247 and go to On3...

To be honest I wouldn’t want very many of the current IC posters here. Most of them suck.

This is true. Ben Sherman could make an announcement that he is changing his username to BSherman and there would be a number of posters there who are up in arms about it.

I don’t know a ton about On3 but they strike me as a “scoops” based media outlet (like the college version Shams Charania or Woj before he retired) in that their primary function is to be the first ones to break news about transfers, hirings, firings, etc.

Can’t say I’m a big fan of that type of journalism, but beyond that think the primary reason people are probably upset is because it sounds like everyone will have to re-register for a new account, which could result in losing a big chunk of members altogether that just don’t feel like jumping through those hoops.

It is pretty frustrating that I can't say anything till Aug 1. but I will gladly quote your post
 
I offered the guys in the Wordle thread at IC to come over and check out this place, if for nothing more than to participate on the Wordle thread. Hopefully they'll come over and stick around. One good thing about the wordle thread (here, there and mostly everywhere, I would assume) is no politics. I have no idea of where those guys are on the political spectrum, nor they me...

It takes some real effort to inject politics into Wordle... that said, I think we have some posters who could manage... :ROFLMAO:
 
Any idea what happens to all the posts on the 247 IC site? I assume legal and technological constraints with porting them over. Do they continue to exist? Do all threads get locked? Deleted?

Nor I, but they could spare me the "best interests of the community, subscribers and staff" boilerplate. Somebody got offered more money, period. I doubt the "best interests" (whatever that is) of the community came into it at all. And again, that's fine, but you don't have to act like you agonized over the "best interests" of the community when you made the decision. Was shutting down the politics board in the best interests of the community?

I've always said the Covid thread over there (even though it glitched out a few times, so I'm not sure if reams of posts got vaporized during any of those incidents) would make for a great historical document as a snapshot of a cybercommunity dealing with it in real time. I mean, that's actually exactly what it was...

On3 is nowhere near as bad as Fox Sports Next. Now that was a disaster of a transition.
