IC going to On3

I look at the new On3 board like once a day and there is a humorous contingent of folks that seem to be trying to trash On3 in anticipation of the merger. Additionally, some THI fan named Ned Cota that seemed to have the first ban dispensed and cause of the first locked thread.

Message board folks are a different breed. ;)

I have kind of petty reasons not to like Shannon Terry but I’m a little worried for ICs tenure on On3. In the sense of, it’s not going to go well.

“The value of your membership and the size of this community will be unlike anything our industry has seen.” is Trumpesque. The community will likely even be smaller than IC is now since they don’t offer a free membership.
This post made me go ahead and cancel. Very trumpian and douchey

Where have you heard that?
I shouldn't have said the founder (Shannon Terry?) but I'd read somewhere that the some of the people who back him and his media company had donated to conservative politicians and causes. I tried looking up the article but can't seem to find it.

ETA: Just saw the post with his claim to be "socially liberal and fiscally conservative" and neither Republican nor Democrat. Of course maybe he's being sincere, but I'll admit that I've learned over the years to be skeptical of people saying that, as in the end they nearly always turn out to be more conservative and Republican than liberal or Democrat. Or, when their social liberalism and fiscal conservatism clash, the conservatism usually seems to win.

Apparently the founder of On3 is a big conservative and Trump supporter. Doesn't mean that the entire platform is right-wing, but that's not a good sign, I'd say.
I’ve not heard that, but I’ve never heard anything about his political leanings.

Some early reports from folks that have registered at On3 are that the off-topic boards there are MAGA cesspools, so that’s not encouraging.

Yeah, my reaction to anyone who says that is always

What socially liberal and fiscally conservative has always meant to me is “aware that that we live in an unjust society, agree that it is wrong, but be willing to benefit from it, nonetheless.”
Akin to the people who say "I love immigrants, I just want them to come here the right way" without caring to learn or understand the numerous ways that the legal immigration system is completely fucked, such that for most people there is no "right way" to come here.

(and in many cases probably the same people who say both those things)

I was tracking this train of thought, but at the end I had "...but not be willing to pay taxes to help deal with some of the problems and injustices"
